Wow, 180lm of UV light!  It's gonna pick up all the interesting details where many UV lights may not be able to.

No, it has four outputs, 180, 80, 10, and UV. I don't know how powerful the UV is.

I think you were referring, possibly indirectly, to Mag-Lites. It's a shame Mag Instrument didn't do too good a job of adapting to a changing market.

I had one of the mini-mags when I was in scouts, and I remember it being decent enough. Pretty bright for the time, and I liked that you could do the candle thing. I've thought about getting one of the LED ones for old time sake, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I remember seeing this bezel, and do you carry this with a dedicated pouch?

no pouch- i just clip it inside the pocket. the bezel is removable and reversible but i'll generally just remove the bezel and carry it that way. wouldn't want to get caught with it bezel out it might land me down at the cop shop with some questions to answer.  :ahhh

Day 4

Another malkoff mdc, this time with an 18650 lumens factory body and tail cap.

This and my smaller mdc were my go to lights  before using my defender..
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Mini Mags were very popular in the Navy.

I think is funny how opinions on brightness change.  At one point 100 lumens was considered bright.  Now people scoff at lights that don’t at least have a few hundred lumens.

Having option to revers or remove is good

I remember when the chunky 1000 lumen lights started to become common. Everyone I talked to agreed they were cool, but completely excessive. I'm not sure how many I "need" but it's probably under 100.

Day 4

Anonymous light from a small emergency kit I bought. No action shot, since I store this one with the batteries out so they don't corrode while I'm not using it. I mostly bought the kit since the whole thing cost less than the MP600 Pro Scout it came with would've been. It just chills out in my work room in case I ever need it.

Day 5

Coast HP1. My first flashlight I think I bought, about ten years ago or so. Still works. Nothing fancy about it, but it was $10 and it's held up. :tu:
I made a red filter for it with Gorilla tape and plastic spoons from KFC, back when they gave plastic spoons.

Nice light too. There is no way I'll resist getting another light during this challenge. Too many good ones, and so many brands I've never heard of before! :ahhh

Day 4

I remembered getting this 4sevens light before the business was acquired by Prometheus.  I really did enjoy many twisty (just twist on-off or mode switch by twisting) offerings from 4sevens back in the days, but Prometheus didn't really continue that legacy after the merger and trim down the offerings since then.

Funny with all the variety we are getting nowadays, it is still rare to find a simple, compact, multi-mode twisty light, with good knurling on the body, while utilizing AA or AAA battery.

We definitely are from different era :D--way back when I was in Scout, I had the incan minimag and even though it really wasn't all that bright, I adored that light for being so compact and handy at the time.  I remembered being a full blown flashlight enthusiast and witnessing the led tech changing the industry, Maglite was a industry giant and only when they started adopting the led tech, we knew the era of incan had passed.

That's cool.  The city I live in has recently banned plastic utensils, yet I can't help but to wonder about those soft wood utensils---they are so soft that people have to break a few for just eating a lunch, especially the wooden knife (it's almost a bad joke), and whether it is beneficial to cut down a lot more trees than to have more plastic landfill.

Agreed.  I remembered the Surefire ad campaign, where they used to say 60 lumens are enough to momentarily blind or even disorient an opponent. :dwts:

Now we are here, I bet no one will raise an eye brow to that, in fact, some lights may even have 60 lm as the second lowest output level on the menu.

I'm ok for a knife, since I edc my Deluxe Tinker or other tools, although that might get me in trouble with the new laws...
But those wooden forks, they won't pierce into food. Absolutely terrible. I have a dessert fork in my work bag, metal, lightweight, excellent for actually eating. And a plastic spoon. The wooden spoons taste horrible on my tongue.

I’m glad I haven’t encountered disposable wood utensils yet.

I have gotten those paper straws a couple of times though.  They absorb water, get slimy, collapse, and generally don’t work.  Give me a plastic straw any day.

You’re not wrong there.  Of my 21700 lights, two have 50 lm as the lowest setting outside of 1 lm moonlight modes.

Mini Mags were very popular in the Navy.
It seemed that half the Sailors aboard USS Peleliu carried one, myself included. Having the red lens installed made them very handy during darken ship.

What a smurfty birthday gift. Here's hoping you had a happy enough birthday (and some better gifts) and that you and Mrs. Explorer are soon fully recovered.

Day 4
so, I did not intend to be a chronological historical illustration of the lights i own,but it's turning out that way.
i got this Mini Maglite in 1996,it was my first EDC light, served me well for a few years.
when my son started crawling,he got ahold of it,and used to enjoy whacking it on the floor.
i had it repaired and used it until i got my first Surefire [i'll post that later]. i intended to get the LED upgrade for this too [is that available now?]

Happy birthday explorer, and wish you and your wife a swift recovery. :salute:

Day 5
A fenix e20 v2.0
This is a cracking little 2x AA light.
I think it’s only 300 odd lumens but I find it very bright with plenty of throw.

I used to use it a lot when walking my dog in the woods at night.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

I love this light with the rotating head, strong metal spring clip and LED display.  I only wish it used usb-c charging rather than proprietary case/base or magnetic
