Playing around with the alox.
:like:

Here is my day 8 contribution...
I'm guessing those are also 58mm? SAKs with aviation logos would be fun to collect (not that I need another subspecialty).

Today I find myself appreciating the elegant simplicity of my Alox Solo.
I will show one of those later in the challenge. Like you, I appreciate its simplicity.

Today was a simple, relaxing Saturday.
Beer?

Another great day, y'awl! :tu:

Day 8

For my first showing of red in this challenge, I'll go with another Secretary. They were apparently produced with this logo for a fairly long time. The prop is a little wooden doll my sister gave us while she was in Japan. I forget what they're called, but apparently there is a whole slew of them. This one is the "September birthday" doll. (Both Mrs. FX and I were born in September...10 years, one day apart.)

Enjoying watching this challenge, awl.   :like: Really trying to fight the urge to by a Bantam.

I’ve been using my Solo a bit and saw the question about the blade position.  Mine is I think a year old, and it is not centered.

Spent the day on the bikes visiting a few of Georgia's covered bridges.

Beautiful scenery to experience on two wheels.  :like:

... used my custom Farmer X’s inline awl to open the hole a little bit (couldn’t get the reamer thru the hole)(sorry, no pic of that…) then plugged it.

Legit awl usage right there...  :like:

Used the can opener to help pull the stubborn cotter pin out of the trailer hitch. Yet another use for this handy implement.

Can opener saves the day yet again!  Who would have thunk?

Day 8 - A sad day for me, I lost my 91 Alox Soldier while going to estate sales, apparently the knife slipped from my pocket edc pouch. I hope that whoever finds the knife uses and appreciates it.

Day 9 - Replacement 89 Alox Soldier out of the display case and in the pocket and put to work fixing some leads for a pair of speakers. This one needs some tuning (sharpening & oiling) to make it ready for edc.

Sure you didn't lose it somewhere at home?

I once thought I lost my 58mm alox vagabond, looked for it everywhere, even retraced the route through the park I walked that day, weeks later I found it at home under a sofa.

Brutal knife loss!
Had a similar experience with a beloved Compact. Fingers crossed for a surprise return.

A fan of bananas I am not. But there is a bush that deposits segmented berries all over my backyard. I intend to harvest some of them, and maybe put them in yogurt. Thanks for the idea!

Day 9

Today we see an Old Cross Electrician. It's the only Old Cross I've owned, and one of two I can recall seeing in person. My Dad owned the other; as a kid, I'd sneak into my parents' bedroom and open the top drawer of his dresser so I could admire that Alox wonder. :D

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

A previous owner made his own engraving panel. That's the worst thing about this Electrician. I traded Cody6268 a newer Electrician for it, and I'm happy to have gotten an Old Cross!

My "daily driver" watch is today's prop. I was checking the run time of tomorrow's prop. And tomorrow will be a Wenger kinda day.

Day 9/30: Alox Pioneer - Awl or Nothing

The awl on my Pioneer made quick work of punching a new hole in my leather belt. This is one of my Awl time favorite tools on the SAKs.

Day 9:

Not much use today for my Farmer X. Before we left for trip to Indiana Saturday, I noticed the heating element on my clothes dryer had stopped working.

Texted everyone that the dryer was down and that I would fix it today, when I got home.

Just tested everything a few minutes ago and found one of the thermal limit switches was bad.

Cut a new parts bag open ( had some on hand… time for a new dryer I think!!) and installed the new switch. Buttoned everything back together and, voilà, we have heat in the dryer again!!  LOL

I did order a full kit, from Amazon, incase it was the heating element, but didn’t need it. Spares for next time!

Day 09:

Last-minute planting before the full fury of Texas summer arrives. I drilled drainage holes in a plastic pot with the awl. I'm not a huge fan of alox SAKs in general; I find that the tools on 91mm SAKs will handle 99% of my daily SAK needs.
BUT the 1% where I find the 93mm alox SAK to be clearly superior is for drilling, reaming, and poking. The 93mm SAK awl is the best multitool awl/reamer/punch that I've ever used, period. (Unless you need to sew. Sew what? Sew nothing, it doesn't have a sewing eye.)

Day 9, Bonus:

Used the modded can opener to help dig out the short pieces of string from the weed trimmer so I could put fresh pieces in.
