Day 23:

The Pioneer X saw a fair amount of use yesterday. I opened some packages with the awl, carved a support stick to prop up a wilting plant, and trimmed flowers with the scissors.

Day 24/30: Pioneer - Cap Lifter

Ordered this pocket clip which was just too tight. So used the Pioneer Cap Lifter to pry it a little loose.

Finished converting the Pioneer X limited edition into a Farmer X with limited edition scales!
:like: What treatment did the blade and tools get?

Nice combo! Very efficient... 👍

I always carry a primary one hand open folder (often a Spydie), with a SAK as a secondary for the tools... Sakriledge, I know...  :ahhh

This "blade delete layer" mod had crossed my mind before. I never went as far because I was not prepared to sacrifice the awl. Instead I embraced the SAK main blade as a backup or sheeple friendly blade, and usually keep it super sharp.

Non-SAK rambling alert...
Show content
SAK blades can get very sharp, but unfortunately they do not stay sharp for long...

Enter modern steels...

So, the primary knife does most of the cutting. One hand open, full size, pocket clip and supersteel just work together like a charm. I like it to have a sharp tip, like a PM2, for pierce cutting. That largely removes my need for scissors, and is probably the main reason why I love the Pioneer / Cadet a bit more than the Pioneer X.

Team work!

That said, I love my SAKs, and feel naked without a SAK in the left front pocket.

The Voyageur cut some dog treats for Fisher’s Jump-n-Jack before the wife and I went out to dinner at a new place.  Now we know the next time we go Fisher can come with because they have an outdoor dining area.

Good eyes!  It's a new to me Carbone.  I want to refinish the handle but not sure how yet.

Day 24

Opened up some new batteries to fix the cat's toy chirping bird.  That actually drives me nuts sometimes...

And here is the passion fruit.

This is one of my old user Pioneers. It shows a few scars of previous less pretty sharpening jobs... I'll reset the bevel and give it some TLC at some point.

Day 25:

I'm pocketing one of my all-time favorite SAKs today. This is an old cross Pioneer with brass liners. I carried it every day for years after my daughter was first born. I was a already a knife nut back then, but had no spare time to act like one, and the Pioneer was just so light and useful to a new dad. Truly a perfect tool for that time of my life.

Interestingly enough, I bought it used off of eBay for maybe $25.00. Who knows how long it lived in the previous owner's pocket.

Great looking pioneer!  Love the red, old cross, brass, and the honest wear!

I started carrying a pioneer shortly before my first was born.  Carried that black one for 6 years and then switched to the 2018 Berry one that my 2 oldest gifted to me for Christmas that year.  I'm going on almost 12 straight years of EDCing a pioneer.  Such a good knife pattern.
