Day 27 - using the Wenger Alox Soldier to cut some cheese for a snack. I do disinfect and wash the blade before using the knife to prepare food.

Muffins?

I do disinfect and wash the blade before using the knife to prepare food.
As do I. Seems I have at least one folder that's nearly exclusively used for food prep.

Posing with the Reeses…
A favorite of mine!

More great stuff, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 27

Here's the safe queen black Alox Bantam. Someday I'll have a few backups.

First use of my alox Classic. The volume button on my ancient iPod shuffle stopped working, so I tried some surgery. It didn’t work.

I see the Bantams are popular! It is my 76 year old dad's favourite, because it is so thin. He coin pocket carries the old ribbed alox version, probably for the last 20 years. Long ago I tried to convince him to try a Pioneer, but for him it was too bulky. The Bantam is impressively thin at 6mm's, but it is a tad too minimal for my preference.

Day 28

A Bantam rescues a new Swiss Army 7 / Harvester from captivity, in the nick of time for the end of this challenge!

Day 27

Took apart the Farmer X last night and put it back together.  The scissor, saw, and can opener would not snap closed.  Got the tension right this time and all tools snap closed now.

Day 27 of 30

Playing catch up,,, didn't realize I was a couple of days behind.

Opening a package that was supposed to have a knife in it. Sadly, the seller got his labels mixed up and a fella in Virginia got my knife. Bummed.

Day 27
Had a doctors appointment and ran some errands after, so Fisher got left home and threw Pioneer X cut some treats for his jump n jack

Day 28
The Voyageur combo tool opened a box.  I like to sharpen the corner of the tool to use as a package opener.

No use (yet) today for the Harvester, but I did a bit of work to improve the bevels on the 77 Wenger SI and the OC Pioneer.

DAY 29

Picked some cherrys off our 137 year old standard cherry trees, sadly only 6 trees remain from the 600 ac orchards.

The bantom is helping to process them once the maggots come out into the water

Day 29/30: Pioneer Pioneer: My First (Respectful) Alox SAK Mod!

Today was a day of firsts: my first attempt at modding an Alox SAK, and a newfound respect for the skills of SAK modders everywhere!

I took on the challenge of transforming my Alox Pioneer into a streamlined one-layer tool, keeping just the blade and awl. Let's just say, there's a reason these mods often look effortless online! Here are my hard-earned lessons:

Drilling is tricky! Especially that pesky middle pin.
Precision is key! you can damage the Alox scales as the drill slips from the rounded pins.
Peening takes practice! My attempts left a lot to be desired (hello, future Torx screws!).
Less is often more! Over-enthusiastic peening led to some seriously tight tool action.

:hatsoff: Big shout-out to all the SAK modders out there!  Your skills are truly impressive. While my Pioneer may not be winning any beauty contests right now, but it now feels more personal and I'll proudly carry it!

Good job on the mod!  Drilling is a pain, I have found though that the sharper the drill bit the better off you'll be.  Less chance of walking and slippage.  I only use carbide drill bits now.  For peening, it does take practice.  I've modded some punches to be concave, to round the peen nicely, also gives it a nice factory look.

Does this count for this challenge?  It started out life as an alox SAK!!  LOL

Cadet… scales are no longer alox.  Fat carbon fiber, from Blade HQ.
