MTO Anniversary Challenge
on: May 28, 2024, 02:09:16 AM
I know there are already several interesting challenges scheduled for July 2024.  Why am I going forward with another one?  Simple.  July is the only month that it CAN be held.
The challenge is called the MTO Anniversary Challenge.  It hasn't been held in about five years now.  It is only valid in the MTO Anniversary Month of July.  July is MTO's anniversary and mine as well.
What is it all about?  Start a new thread.  Post photos for 30 straight days of any type of gear.  Could be Leatherman, Gerber, SAKs, flashlights, keychain tools, Cheap but Cheerfuls.  Pretty much every type of gear that we talk about here.  All I mentioned and more.  Mix them up as you see fit.  Specific requirements are spelled out on page 6 of your awards listing.
There is already a badge allocated for the challenge.  Here is what it looks like.

* 130.jpg (Filesize: 3.21 KB)

Remember if you are already signed up for a challenge, you can do another at the same time.  BUT, you can only claim one badge.  The MTO badge would be a nice one on your rack.
Sound like fun?  It could be.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

Any kind of gear we talk about? I'm in! 30 different pieces of gear in 30 days will be easy, and (with careful planning) it may even serve as a documentation of how my needs, uses, and tastes have changed.

Great one to get going :woohoo: :like:

Actually, we have a rule that this challenge and another in July (since it is the Anniversary month ;) :D ) can both be participated in and can still get you a badge for each one :woohoo: :like: :like:

I'm in!

Just so I'm clear, the requirements read, "Start a new thread and post a photo of any gear for thirty (30) consecutive days during the MTo anniversary month."  Do we each have to start our own thread or can we all post here?

Everyone should read the special dispensation that has been granted for the MTO Anniversary Challenge.  Join in here, even if you are in a different challenge, and you still are eligible for BOTH badges.  Thank you Poncho for telling everyone about the special rule.
Second.  'Start a new thread'.  Well this is the start.  Check out the awards listing.  Click on the little man to the right.  The one that says who already has the award.  You will see that many members who were in the old MTO challenges ALL got badges.  They didn't all start a thread, but all who participated got an award.
Third.  Do you already have this badge?  The challenge was hosted back in 2017 and 2019.  In that case you can do like Reamer and apply for another badge with participation in MTO for a qualifying event.  You might apply for one of the Leatherman or Gerber badges if you follow the rules for that one.  Reamer will try for the Country of Origin.  You could try for one of the 58mm badges and still keep faith with MTO Anniversary Challenge.  Many others.  This is your chance to get a badge you always wanted.
Fourth.  Anyone afraid that your idea of 'carry any gear' doesn't qualify as a 'multitool'?  What if you want to post photos of your watch, or fishing gear, or Knipex?  That one is easy.  Simply post a photo of whatever you want and to placate your conscience, simply put a multi in the photo as well.  Knipex plus a SAK would be a nice photo.  Or a watch and a SOG.  Just for your conscience's sake, right?  Any gear means 'any gear', but another tool in the photo is that much more interesting.
Lots of opportunity for this one.  Best wishes.  Gary

Yes indeed. I may well be able to show two pieces of gear in each photo. It's gonna be fun!

Lots of the 'fun' members already signed up.  This would be a VERY good challenge for the new members out there.  Never done a challenge before?  Don't know what to do?  PM me and I will point you down the right path, or answer on this thread if there is a question that could be useful to others.
Again for the new members mostly, can you post just one item all month?  Yes.  You could make thirty posts and thirty pictures of your 'whatever'.  You could also post a different multi or EDC item every day if you chose.  Post one SAK on one day.  A plier type multi on another.  A different one on the next.  Do a photo of your EDC the next.  Or post one item or type until you get tired of it. Then post something else for a while.
All items are honoring MTO's idea of tools of all types.  Just don't post a photo of a pet alone or something goofy like that.  Put bowser or cuddles in a photo by all means, but tuck in a multi-tool or something along with your pal.  Or post two photos at once.  Snuggly cat in one photo.  Tool or tools in the other.  Best wishes.  Gary

Anything Goes Official MTo 14th Anniversary Annual Challenge!!!

Here's the one we did in 2020. It should be a perfect guide for what posts will look like for this one. If anyone is wondering what would count, browse through the old challenge. It was a ton of fun!

Thanks for the link, Reamer.  Just so nobody gets confused.  The challenge that Reamer linked to is exactly the same as the one in this thread.  With one exception.  That challenge was the 14th Anniversary Challenge.  Different badge.  Good for that one year only (2020).  Nobody is eligible for that badge any more.  Here is the 14th badge.

Still good reading and lots of good ideas for everybody.  This basic version of the MTO Anniversary Challenge hasn't been run since 2019.  Some lucky members have an Anniversary badge, plus the 14th Anniversary badge.
Again, anyone joining in on this particular challenge is eligible for the MTO Anniversary Challenge badge on page 6 of the awards.  NOT the 14th badge.  Best wishes.  Gary

You will think of something, BP.  A person could always do an EDC pocket dump (airline version).  Keys, hanky, chap stick, sun glasses, etc.  Or your wife could take a photo of the TSA agents sitting on you trying to wrestle a Mister Pinchy away from your zip-tied hands.  Best wishes.  G

Welcome one and all.  I think one of the best parts of this challenge is the freedom of choice that it allows.  Want to do another challenge at the same time?  And still get a badge?  Go right ahead.
Special rules for this one.  Do the MTO Anniversary Challenge for 30 days and get the badge.  At the same time you can do another challenge and get that badge as well.  Doesn't work that way any other month.
Nobody would have to buy anything for this challenge.  Buying things is the favorite part of challenges for many spend-a-holics here, but not necessary for this one.  You could do the whole challenge with a Victorinox Classic.  Or an Ozark Trail multi-tool.  For that matter you could post five different items from your EDC one day, a Leatherman the next, and .....?  Action shots of a tool being used are a plus in any challenge, but few people use a multi every day.
You get to use your imagination for this one.  Should be interesting.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

Very true :iagree:
This is an easy challenge compared to others, but at the same time, it's more unique, because it is only possible in July. Well, July is just around the corner.
Hey, I can get two badges in July...
I have to think what other challenge I'll do. :tu:

Congratulations on a very successful and entertaining Micra Challenge.  It might be quite a change from well-kempt, orderly, proper, professional and thought out mannerisms to the disorder and chaos that is bound to happen on this challenge.  It seems a challenge often takes on the personality of whoever is running it.  Now I don't claim to be running this thing.  I'm just the person who put some fuel in the tank and cranked it.  If it takes on my personality it will be one of running around in circles looking for lost items, talking to itself, forgetting what it was supposed to do, and singing out loud.  Perhaps you can be a moderating influence.
To confess, when you and I were last together you were trying to re-roof a shed with a 58mm Bijou and cutting out wall board with the same wee Bijou.  Maybe your positive nuttiness can offset some of my negative nuttiness.  Might work out.  Welcome aboard at any rate.
Best wishes.  G
