I like that other sorts of items are being posted.  Tool boxes, watches, pens, lights.  Orange things.  I did a little orange myself.  I like the Svord that I got from the surprise box a lot.  It is inconvenient to carry.  Okay when you are walking around.  Not good for vehicles.  Rather bulky for what amounts to a 3 inch blade.  Best wishes.  G

Day 5

Something Old: A Buck 505 "Knight" I bought at the Base Exchange in the 80's.  I used it heavily for a long time.

Something New: A new Buck 505 that I bought last year.  Never used.

Something Borrowed: Now I would never say that the kitchen belongs to my wife, but I don't borrow things from people and I had to come up with something.  This is one of the kitchen knives my wife uses.

Something Blue: I have a lot of knives and tools that I never use because I'm partially a collector.  I also have many that are specifically set aside to carry and use, and my "something blue" is one of those.  All of my Barlows were in my "don't use" pile, so I bought this Case Barlow (Navy Blue Bone Rogers Jig) recently and have been carrying it instead of my usual Buck Cadet.  It's already a little pocket worn ♥

Ever since my wife retired, back in December, and found the Temu, she's picked up all kinds of seasonal things.  She has outfits and accessories for every holiday now.  She picked up this OLD glory bandana for the 4th outfit.  I BORROWED it because I needed something BLUE today.  I included my NEW Gordon Multitool from Harbor Freight to round out the theme.

Gary, I know it's a stretch but I'm an old guy that never could color within the lines.  Shoot, last time I borrowed something was over 2 years ago when I borrowed some leather tools from my brother in law.

Lots of fun old, new, etc posts.  I never knew that blue CASE knives were so popular.  Seems quite a few members have them.  I think we just had our first lawn mower on the MTO Anniversary Challenge.  I hope everybody had fun with the little diversion.  So far there have been packs, lights, knives, multis, SAKs, coolers (one anyway), pens, watches, and some EDC pocket dumps.  And a spear.  All good MTO fodder.
It will shortly be time for me (along with the rest of the crew) to follow powernoodle's leadership.  I hope we don't have to cook a possum or something.  Way too hot to start baking a critter indoors.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

Possums are the greasy ones.  That's what makes possum gravy so good.  You didn't ask, but it is red wine with possum.  Best wishes.  G

Day 5. The first picture is a stand-in as the actual old, blue and borrowed is not around for a photo anymore. I like to think it is still grinding, cutting, and being the best version of itself, out there somewhere... Many years ago an acquaintance asked to borrow it for an urgent house repair over the weekend. Would be back by monday morning. Last thing I ever saw of either of them.

Which brings me to the second photo. The new one which is a somewhat cheaper replacement without all the fancy safety electronics and vibration dampening. So, new and blue as well.

Just can't loan out your angle grinders.  Folks just won't bring them back.  I don't think I ever loaned anything and had anyone bring it back.  I always had to go pick it up.  Must be genetic programming or something.  Best wishes.  G

I have got mixed experiences. I've lent out various tools just to never get them back, get them back broken, or curiously get back something else entirely. I count those as losses. On the plus side are those who have an urgency and greatly appreciate getting helped out. My experience is that the latter will go out of their way to repay that favor, and that have on several occasions helped solve my own urgencies.

Over the years I've become better at sorting between those categories. Professionals, who know and value what they borrow (which is usually something odd as they have most things themselves), have always returned whatever they lent as well as the favor. One who was unlucky and broke the thing just called a tool shop and told them to bill his company for whatever replacement I wanted. So there is that. Then there are the FFFs as they are known in the financial circles: fools, friends, and family. That lending is usually not going all that well - but I kind of accept that within reason - it comes with the terrain.
