Day 8

Going with the same, but carrying the Benchmade Bailout today

Edit: used the ASK Jefferson when I got home. Hit a possum on the back way to work and pushed one of my lights in on my car. Used the screwdriver to unscrew the light and put it back where it belongs. No pics because both hands were being used

Domestic flights here are not subject to security checks.
I wish that were the case here.

91mm sak with micarta scales in the clamps waiting on epoxy to dry.
I don't know when, but someday I will slap Micarta scales on an SAK.

Wore a pair of light shorts today, so I only carried my little pocket pouch.
That is a neat little pouch! :like: Any chance you could get an 84mm SAK in it?

If you don't have any titanium, carbon fiber or Damascus - no worries. It just means you are smarter than me with your credit card.  If that it the case, post a pic of an Opinel.  Opinels are awesome.
I have no Damascus, carbon fiber, or titanium (yet)...but ye shall receive an Opinel photo.

A few pieces laying around my man cave office
:like:

Today, I used the Pro Scout (work issue) to open a Peli-Case containing another EDC type of toy*
A monitor of some sort?

More great stuff for today, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 8

Today I'll show a Leatherman Signal. and take the opportunity to plug the Signal challenge that I'll be hosting in October.

Titanium is cool and all, but how about that nice patina on brass/copper/bronze? Love this Kaweco Brass sport. Writes well, and the only fountain pen I've owned that can actually hold up to EDC without being babied or breaking.

Day 8

Sometimes all you need is a knife. My new Alox 2 is a perfect single layer and the hawk bill is such a great option for pruning and opening packages. I wish it were not discontinued.

Day 8

This is my Kershaw Leek. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I've had my Kershaw Leek for nigh on 20years if I'm not mistaken.  It's taken a lot of abuse as I traveled the country for work, and I've replaced the torsion bar many times.  It's in need of a fresh sharpen but other than that, it's still good to go.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 9: this is my favorite pair of pliers. It's the Knipex needle nose combination pliers. I have multiple and the best version is with the comfort grip handles and the chromed plier head. That's my go to pliers on my workbench. However this version is too bulky for my EDC pack, that's why I got the version with the dipped handles, which barely fits in my pack. As I said yesterday, I usually carry the radio pliers that are 60g lighter. But when I know that my pack will be mostly riding with me in the car, I throw them in. They are very capable cutters and the slightly asymmetric jaws are great to grip flat things because they give you three contact points.

It is one of those looks vs weight.  I’d be in heaven if I could get the nice brass patina look with the titanium weight and durability.

Day 9

A Sekonic 758DR exposure meter. (On top of the previously shown color checker).

While cameras these days are generally very good at getting right exposures they work by looking at reflected light as that is all they got. Then they estimate the motive and try to set the correct exposure. That will sometimes go wrong - extreme examples are photographing very light or white motives (will go grey), very dark or black motives (will go grey), or anything against a bright light source as a window (will go dark silhouette).

An exposure meter measures how much light actually hits a specific area in the scene so the above issues can be avoided. It is also very useful in a studio setting with controlled lights like flashes or strobes as it can help measure and adjust the power levels of the different lights until each light have the influence you want in the scene. For example to get the highlights, dark areas and background exposed as you'd like them.

This particular model can also be calibrated to your specific camera sensors dynamic range. After that you can take a measurement of brightest, medium and darkest areas of interest in the scene and it will find the exposure to best capture that. A histogram in the camera itself will give similar feedback but always on the entire scene - which might include parts you don't care about.

I included a battery in the picture as this model has a silly design error - the power button is protruding too much. Even when it is put into its pouch any pressure on this in transport or storage will turn it on. So when you go to use it the battery is dead. Hence, always a spare battery...

MTO members who aren't signed on to any challenge often make a post or send a photo.  You already knew that.  Anyone can do it.  Can you get a badge out of coming in so late?  The mods will decide that.  It isn't up to me.  Some people don't want a badge, anyway.
I will say that I couldn't view the Kershaw photo that you attached.  I tried to download it and got a message that the file was corrupted or non-supported.  I will try again.  Might be cleared up by now.  You might need to correct something.
Tomorrow is a mini-challenge here.  Go back a page or two and read up what you need to do to participate.  Best wishes.  G
