Couldn't agree more!

DAY 14  My 1980s stuff: Paratool, Cairns helmet, and Buck 112
Awesome pic right there!

Gerber Zip tools.  These were designed to attach to a jacket or backback zipper.  I have another one with hex tools hiding somewhere in my pile-o-tools.
These zip tools have always grabbed my eye but I never pulled the trigger on them.  Didn't know that there was that much variety though.

Today we'll take a look at a bit of an odd footnote in Schrade history: the 4x4. The diamond-plate handles are kinda cool, but I am unsure what the steel is. Its non-removable pocket clip that restricts the user to rifht-handed, tip-down carry wouldn't fly today.
That's a pretty neat one right there.  Never seen it before.
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 14

Picked up this Armbar Drive in a recent knife lot I purchased.  I've been interested in the Gerber Armbars since David Bowen reviewed them.  Going to have to EDC it and get a feel for it after I'm done with the current challenges.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Sweet carry

Day 14

Executive helping adjust the flow on a blue Zippo butane insert. I feel like the odd man out on this, a lot of my friends love it, but I think it's more least favorite Zippo. The Exec is great for small screws, between the file and the peeler tip.
I love butane inserts because I don’t have to wory about evaporation, bit prefer the soft flame ones (whether Zippo brand or the Vector Thunderbird).  I like the Zippo blue torch insert for paracord, but other than that it is the soft flame.

Day 14:
We hid inside from the heat all day, so I didn't use my knives or tools today. My little boy asked me when he was going to get his first "big" knife since he only has a little Classic SD. So we went straight to my box, and he picked out this translucent green Spartan. I let him choose his accessories, too. He picked a green toothpick, green lanyard, blue torx driver, and an orange ball head pin. He was excited, to say the least the best part was that when I went to look for it to take pics just now, I found it in his cap with two hot wheels cars and his wallet right next to my cap with all of my edc pieces on the kitchen counter. Being a dad is the best. (Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)
Love that green

Hello to day 15.
My pic today is my '98 Wave. My most trusted MT that has been repaired many times due to a fair bit abuse of the years. She is now mostly retired but would my pick if I could only pick one LM to keep from the collection.
She has a few scratches that I may need to see if they will buff out.  :D.

Love it.  The scratches show its character and probably could tell some good stories.

A lot of folks here love Knipex.  I think I have one pair in my toolbox that I don't use too often... I should buy a set and get to know them better  :tu:

It is a slippery slope!

Day 15

For the mini challenge, I’ve got together a few old pieces with sentimental value.

The PST is my oldest multitool, bought new in 1995 or 1997 when I was 18. As my only multitool for many years, I fixed my first car with it, took it hiking and camping, repaired broken wheelchairs in a Belarusian orphanage, and a lot more besides.

The Maglite and Fisher space pen are not much younger, although they haven’t seen as much pocket time.

The Omega, a quartz Seamaster, has been with me since 2002, bought for me as an engagement “ring”, and like the PST, has been round the UK and Europe with me. It’s still my favourite travel watch, with the jumping hour hand particularly useful for international trips.

For the day 15 mini challenge, I'll post my Coast multi-tool. It was my first off-brand one, and it sparked something inside me, to go on a quest to find a decent off-brand multi-tool.

Day 15 and Mini-Challenge

My Grandfather’s brother (my Great Uncle) was injured in WW I and was in a wheelchair.  My Grandfather built a 30 x 40 foot “shop” for him to “work” in.  He made a variety of things like windmills, dollhouses, lamps, and my toybox when I was about 3.  He had quite a collection of woodworking tools and some mechanical tools.  He had a small collection of taps and dies in an old cigar box he kept on a certain shelf that I was attracted to for some reason.  He gifted it to me just before his passing.   Still have it.  Memories.  The Hope Club still exists, located in Rhode Island.  Not sure if they still have Select Cigars.

IMR Gary - Neat old tackle box!

@Jeff - That is a great memory and a fantastic treasure to share.   My grandfather was a great source for new cigar boxes each school year, Dutch masters mostly.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 15: two sentimental items from my grandfather. He passed when I was about 6-7 years old and I never spent much time with him. We only visited my mother's parents maybe once a year, so I haven't seen him very often.

After he passed, my grandmother came to visit us and brought me the Wenger that belonged to my grandpa. It was my first SAK and saw a lot of use. I'm glad that I didn't lose it. The watch was also his but it came in my possession a lot later. When my grandmother also passed, we cleared the house and I got grandpas watch. I wore it daily until I was about 18/19 years old. It then required a service and got put away in a drawer. I had it serviced a couple of years ago.

Powernoodle Day 15

For the 3rd mini challenge, I’m going to make it simple (hopefully) - something that has sentimental value

That's a good mini challenge.

This is a Craftsman screwdriver that belonged to my father, who died 10 years ago.  He was a 3rd shift tool & die maker at GE for most of his life.  A nice, big screwdriver is cool, because it can be used for prying, scraping, digging and so many other things.

I wondered if we would see any fishing gear.  Was there anything ever handier than a good cigar box?  Taps, watches, hand tools.  PowerPlay, a nice Gerber, what else?  I forget.  I need to post a Wenger photo myself.  Might wait until Wenger Wednesday.  Best wishes.  G

Pocket slips...
:like: I've gotten to the point that I carry in a dedicated pocket or use a slip.

I found it in his cap with two hot wheels cars and his wallet right next to my cap with all of my edc pieces on the kitchen counter.
He didn't waste any time at all claiming it as his. Good choice! :tu:

I can understand that!

Great stuff for today, y'awl...I really like the sentimental stuff! :2tu:

Day 15

Here are some newer sentimental items. Both were birthday gifts from Mrs. FX in 2021, just after I joined here. She chose the Evo 23 because she thought I should have an SAK with a magnifier.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Evo 23 will still see occasional careful use, but the Solo will forever be a safe queen.

The Corgi Minis are kinda sentimental, too.

Day 15

I love the mini challenge topic! ♥

My most sentimental tools are all pocket knives.  The top pic are 4 knives I inherited from my maternal grandfather. He served in the Navy in both WWI and WWII.  :salute:  I don't know the story of any of the knives, but he carried and used all 4.

1. Frontier Imperial-Schrade - tang stamp dates it from 1976 - 1984, almost certainly it was closer to the earliest date.
2. and 3.  Imperials both dating from 1946 to 1956
4. Boker dating from 1920 to 1930

These 2 knives I inherited from my dad.

Top: an unknown lockback knife with scissors, made in Japan.  I find it amusing because my dad always associated Japan with inferior quality items, an opinion likely born before all of their process improvements in the 70's.

Bottom: a novelty knife.  My dad loved trout fishing.

I'm out and about today, and didn't really bring much. So the most sentimental item around is this MiniChamp. I bought it while out roaming with a lovely girl who would many years later become my wife.

The photo is with the pen out. I never thought I'd actually use it, but for some of those "where is a pen" situations it has come in very handy.

DAY 15

A gift from a friend across the pond

I used it today to replace a pull cord on a neighbours bathroom light switch. It was heavily painted over so I used the small blade to scrape that off and then the flat-head to undo and trim the replacement to the required length.

I will return to replace the fitting once she has decided which one she wants  ;)

Farmer X - your Corgi cars made me think about something on a shelf that is soon to be gifted to our Grandson for his birthday.  A few small items, some original owner Matchbox.  More memories.
Thanks Fireman.  Love those Bucks.
