Day 14

Busy day without much time for shop/DIY work, so all I've got is a photo of unboxing a new tool bag.

@Rich_SD: I only do well with precise and tiny stuff up to a point. I couldn't see working on it regularly!

@Poncho65: :hatsoff:

@Juan el Boricua: that blue is spiffy! :like:

@Sos24: cool scales! Did you put them on a Rambler?

@Cypren: more tool storage is exactly what I need!

@JonesE: cool mushroom! Is it an edible sort, or one you should avoid at all costs?

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 15

I recently noticed that a drawer pull was loosey-goosey.
That presented a good opportunity for bit driver testing.

  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I am beginning to see why some folks so strongly dislike the 2D bit driver. Getting a good "bite" into the screw took a few moments. The bits seem a little flimsy; I wouldn't use them to remove a screw that was tightly torqued. Limitations imposed by the Signal's design awlso played a part. (Though in its defense, the space was tight. A back layer SAK Phillips would probably have been worse.)

  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And, just for a little icing on the cake, the smurf quality pot-metal drawer pull broke. :twak:

Farmer X, I have no idea. It’s just the normal kind that end up growing around here this time of year.

Rich- The mini driver adapter has been great for my use, for the time being. I used to carry a Vic's mini driver (me, and about 90% of my peers and co workers wear glasses!!!) but, have been finding many battery compartments and small toys with phillips screw locks so, I was lagging with a small phillips; enter this beauty ... slimmer, longer and having the ability to just flip the shaft and have both drivers and, being so easy to carry (in tool, in bit carriers or bit cards; in wallet) have been awesome. Mind you, I haven't used it on the bit driver so, can't tell how sturdy it might be under those circumstances.  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Farmer- I share your feelings towards the driver too, especially when screws or bolts are recessed!

Farmer; Jones- Thanks for the compliments!

more tool storage is exactly what I need!

In my case this was more about portability than storage. I used to do most of my work in the garage workshop, but the new house is more than twice the size of our last one, spread out between three floors, and I’ve had tweaks and modifications to do everywhere. I was carting around a bunch of toolboxes and loose tools and eventually decided I needed to centralize things in one portable kit I can move around easily. Really liking this tool bag so far; it’s got a ton of clever little touches and insane customizability. Festool stuff is always ruinously expensive but they do give you your money’s worth.

Day 15

Stabbing air pockets so they don’t overflow my trash can.

@Juan el Boricua: you're spot-on about recessed screws. The drawer pull screws were recessed, and the bit really struggled with them. Cool "modeling" photo, and looking forward to seeing what those scales wind up on!

@Cypren: portability is a good thing. My work tools are in a small but heavy box. Said box wound up on a cart that I wheel to whatever lift I'm working on. And those air pillow things sure can be a PITA!

@ Sos24: what kind of cheese? That photo made me want some pepper jack!

@m47mu74nt: neat carving!

As usual, y'awl are doing great! :2tu:

Day 16

I couldn't be bugged to break out any paracord, so just a glamour shot of the Signal with a newly purchased cheap fountain pen.

Thank you, it was carved by a friend that is very good at wood carving. I asked him for a "most anatomically possible" skull and scorched sculpture, and considering the scale, I think he nailed it!

@Cypren: portability is a good thing. My work tools are in a small but heavy box. Said box wound up on a cart that I wheel to whatever lift I'm working on. And those air pillow things sure can be a PITA!

One of the best things about the Tanos Systainer system (used most prominently by Festool, but also by a number of other companies) is that everything locks together for easy transport. That tool bag can be carried by the handle or with a strap, or its base can lock onto a stack of toolboxes on a dolly or the top of my shop vac to roll it around while I'm working. I believe Milwaukee has a similar toolbag now as well with their Packout ecosystem, but I'm not heavily invested into that (I bought all of my Milwaukee tools before it was introduced and became their standard toolbox) so I haven't looked too closely.

Day 16

I flipped a bunch of breakers off to do some electrical work and then realized my lineman's pliers and other insulated tools were still packed. Cue some searching by torchlight.

Unfortunately, the rest of my posts in this challenge are going to be boring.  On Monday, I had a heart attack  :ahh and I just got home from the hospital.  I’m on very light activity for the next 2 weeks, so I probably won’t be using my Signal for anything. I might just drop out, but for now I’ll just do some catch up pics.
