Day 2

Not much going on, other than routing the wires and prepping zip ties on the new workstation.  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Day 2

The obligatory "open a box from Leatherman with a Leatherman" pic.  (It's just bits for a project tomorrow)

Mmmm... beef jerky.      I wonder what beef jerky for dogs tastes like.

Day 2

Pulling and popping staples out of lumber from Home Depot. The basement stairs in the new house aren’t really properly reinforced and the movers were a little freaked out about it when carrying some heavy items down there. Seems like a good candidate for a fix and fortunately not too hard even without most of my power tools, which don’t get here until next week.

More great stuff for today, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 3

I put the opener to use on a bottle last night. It works so well that the cap was off before I could get an action shot. :D

Day 3

So yesterday, I did use the Signal to break down boxes that came in. In total I broke down about five or so. The Signal performed admirably. Some quick observations was that I did experience some hot spots on my hand after the five boxes I broke down. I did get pinched once by the carabiner opening. I would say, if you are doing a lot of cutting wear some gloves. After the boxes were broken down, I did a Quick Look at the edge and it held up well. Edge was still sharp and would have handled more use before a touch up. Did get quite a bit of tape residue on the blade which was expected. I didn’t see any chipping. More to come.

Day 3

Time for an easy "mod".

I'll never need a ferro rod or signal whistle during my normal life.  Also, as much as I like and use Leatherman diamond-coated files, the one on the Signal is too small for regular use.  I picked up some replacement parts from Etsy for those 2 tools that hold extra bits and a Vic tweezer.

Here's the kit:

Here's the parts with the bits they will hold:

Here's where the tweezers go:

It came with a thumb stud too.  I don't normally like them, but I'll give it a try:

The final product:

Nice and quick mod Rich. I find it makes the Signal more urban friendly.

Day 3

Decommissioning and, scavenging of salvageable parts from an old, curbside bike. Sadly, the bit/tweezer holder got out of commission as the pliers loosened grip and the top-mount bit holder slammed onto it, breaking off the tip that held it on the handle's cutout and rendered it "unclipable"; you win some, you loose some. I'll see what can be done to salvage it.  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I have one on its way to use in place of the sharpener.  Still debating on the one for the whoste/ferro rod because I sometimes use the ferro rod for making coffee just for fun.

The Signal was on coffee making duty.
First opened the fresh bag of coffee, then battening some sticks into smaller pieces using the hammer on the Kodiak.

Neat mods and fantastic Lego Landy...and I'm having some coffee with lunch! :tu:

Day 4

One Signal feature I won't take advantage of is the sharpener. I've said before, and I'll say again, that my sharpening skills are somewhere between lacking and nonexistent. But I can see it being useful for sharpening serrations.

Day 4

Another reason that I have stayed away from the Signal is that I almost never need a mutitool saw.  I'm sure it's very handy for camping, and that is the Signal's focus, but in my normal life I think I have used a multitool saw only a couple times.  For my next easy mod, I'm going to replace the saw with something more useful to me.  The easiest would be a diamond file from a Wave.  I could also replace it with scissors from a Wingman.  I have extras of both, so I can't decide.

DAY 5:
Started with a failure : 1/4" bits are too wide to get to the screw hidden inside the chimney, gonna stand up and seek for a proper screw driver (but it's not a "Signal" failure, more a general multitool limitation)
