Day 4

Happy July 4 to our American friends here!

I used Lionsteel Bestman to open a package with a book.

Additionally, I ordered some canoe, stockman and sod buster to better fit this challenge :) Hopefully they arrive soon.

Nice write-up buddy.  :salute:

Yeah, they're definitely a step down later designs.  Mostly because there is nothing that anchors you to the rim and so you have to carefully aim each cut.  The same is true of the British Army WWII "Clasp" knife.  Looks like it should engage the rim but actually doesn't.

With those giant ones, I've found the easiest operation is to cut horizontally parallel and underneath the rim and rip the whole top off. I'm not sure that's the kosher technique, but i find it easier.

DAY 4

French laguiole frog knife, believe it or not, this is a traditional design, dating back to 16th Century (or so I was told).... unusual but works very well, very hard to find now (even in France....I have looked).

This was bought 20 years ago in central France, along the agricultural belt....lovely place

That is a beautiful example, I don't know that I've seen any with a ball on the tang like that.

This is a dangerous challenge to do because y'awl are posting a lot of real nice knives that I might have to look into.

Agree.  Can be one of the more expensive challenges.  Yet, at the same time, many are old discontinued so aren’t even available.

:like: I keep looking at these but have no use for just a blade (if it was OHO that might swing it)

Day 3

On a stockman, the sheepsfoot blade is my general utility blade.  I use it for opening packages, cleaning and whittling my fingernails, etc.

Dean 51 Traditional Challenge
Scout Sub-Challenge
Day 4 of 30

Getting the holiday weekend started right,,,, working on a honey-do early. This morning the Scout helped me remove the door panel on my daughters car to figure out why the window dropped. Seems a new motor will need to be ordered. Might see a follow up knife picture in a few days once the repair is completed. My wife and daughter are heading out in the morning for a 4 day getaway. I am looking forward to the opportunity to complete some of my stuff over that time.

Day 4

I almost carried the camp knife and urban jack today but at the last second decided to be American and carry the issued knives I have. Technically the TL-29 was issued to me in a tool box and it uh got "lost." the MP600 is one I bought after getting out. The darn supply clerk was a penny pincher and clawed it back from me.

Day 4

Gotta go American today. Here's an old Imperial "Junior" Cub Scout knife. A little smaller and lighter than a regular scout. No can opener, but you get TL-29 style disc locks for the driver and awl. Not a bad trade off. I think if I was confident I wouldn't want the opener, I'd rather carry this. Beautiful quality, too.

Posting a day late today.  The wife didn't want me opening up the bag of ice for our celebration like a neanderthal so I had to cut it open.  :P
