Day 14

Received two Lottery Scratch Off tickets as part of a White Elephant gift.

The Gerber pry bar end works very well
At removing the masking material.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 13: Had to carve some wood, and the Craftsman blades chipped pretty bad. Seems that the Lenox Carbide and Gold blades are a bit hardier.

Day 14: slapped in a new blade and cut up a bunch of boxes that I'd thrown out of my closet and basement.

Also started digging out my Star Trek figures--since I started watching the series for the first time.  Got them early on when I first got into action figures 7-8 years ago due to the fact they're cheap, but quality.  They're probably worth less than they sold for new. I know I have Yar and Crusher--plus Worf around here somewhere. Got a long list I plan to get.

I hear Nacelle got the license--let's see if they can top Diamond Select in quality, and Playmates in variety.  But, at about $30, definitely slightly high-end compared to my budget. However, if it's anything like the stuff I've seen at my Walmart (like Biker Mice from Mars)--the quality should be amazing.

@LoopCutter: spiffy Tribal Lock! And I guess all the scratchers were duds?

@Fireman: hope you're feeling much better by now!

@JonesE: much the same in Michigan...sunlight is a bit of a rarity.

Fantastic work by awl! :2tu:

Now for some public service announcements. I am thinking there might be a giveaway for those who complete this challenge. (It'll be contingent upon my ability to find the intended prize.) And we shall be voting on the badge design soon.

Day 15

Under normal circumstances, this Hot Pockets box would have been chucked directly into the trash. But this is a challenge, and testing of the two brands of blade is in order.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

We have a very clear winner here. While the DeWalt blade cut cleanly, the Stanley left jagged edges. That should be apparent in the photo below. The Stanley also hung up a time or two. No such difficulty was noted with the DeWalt.

Day 16

NT cutters D-400GP

This metal precision knife from NT I think is high grade of NT pen type cutter with D-400 being plastic. NT cutter also make a slim knife DS-800P and a double ended D-1000P, which has 1 blade side and a needle side. I bought it like 8 years back when my wife bought me a Bandai Real Grade Zaku as a birthday gift. But never got it finished ever since my daughter is born.

The D-400GP has a smooth aluminum body, metal (I think is steel) grip knurling that also is the part gripping the blade. Includes a pack of 5 blades and a cap. It can use blades snapped off a type A light duty blade as well. The center of gravity lends more to the bottom to provide a stable grip.

With all made in Japan goodness and precision.

The duty is from my son's request. One of the wheels of his Lego breaks off and there he goes screaming with tears (as a 3 yo should).

Some Aaron Alpha with a clamp. The wheel is now stuck and cannot rotate. After a surgery with D-400GP, the wheel can now rotate (with some increased fiction). Some ability is better than lossing all the ability, my son agreed.

This is my submission for the utility badge.  Unfortunately it doesn't match up with Farmer X's design idea as I feel that ReamerPunch executed it perfectly.  But, I do enjoy designing these so here are my ideas, though I realized now I didn't do one in black.

Day 16

Kinda skeptical about this one, the Prybrid X. It's nearly the size of a 91mm SAK but, even charitably, has like half the tools. On the Lockdown's the small xacto blade was a way to cram the blade into less space, and is complimented by a full sized "regular" knife. But I don't think the space savings here are worth it being the only blade. I'm a little skeptical of the pry function's durability as well.

Still, it did do the one thing I asked today, cut tape, and it is OHO, so that's something.

It was a gloomy day here, too. And a big thanks to AzteCypher for his badge design! We'll start the official vote tomorrow. And y'awl are doing great, as usual! :2tu:

Day 16

I'm utterly spent and drained (turns out I cranked the thermostat up a little too much). This is all I have the energy for tonight. Regular MTo'ing should resume tomorrow.

Day 17

Toughbuilt 5-in-1 Folding Utility Knife TB-H4-12-IM

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Front, the plate is plastic

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Back with clip, the plate is metal (steel?)

I got this TB utility knife a few months ago. It is very capable and solid. It is mostly made from metal, with one side being high quality plastic. The paint is beat up on mine, and I have replaced the original double ended bit with a vessel one (65mm) and grinded down the slotted side to make it 60mm.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Blade (original) having touched up with a diamond file on one side after dulled. The blade only lock closed and fully opened

It includes a blade (with wire cutter notch), a bit holder with magnet that can accommodate up to 60mm long bit when folded, including a double end PH2 and slotted and a pry bar. It also includes a metal clip on the back, and a blade storage for 2 blades with magnet.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Bit driver is centered, which is a huge plus over the Milwaukee and alike. It only locks closed or fully opened, would be great if it can lock at 90 degree. Be careful if you intend to use it with a bit extender, if it is a normal full "hex" extender, I have had the magnet attracted to it and pulled out when remove the extender. No issue if you use a smaller one like the Leatherman (ratchet) extender. You can also pull it out, epoxy and put it back as well.

I am very happy with this TB-H4-12-IM. It is tough as its name with just enough function I need most of the time, pairing up with a Knipex Cobra 125. If I need to take things down I can pair this duo with a bit kit and a Surge with LM extender. Then I will have 2 drivers and 2 pliers. Fit nicely in a small pouch.

Nobody cares what I think, but that hasn't stopped me from commenting before so.... I like the purple round emblem with the white lettering.  I glanced at the tombstone shaped ones the other day but haven't compared them.  Either type would serve the purpose for a badge.
I got bored Sunday, and took out my old fixed blade Stanley.  I didn't throw away the old dull blades, just put them back in the handles.  Years ago, I suppose.  Took out my medium Arkansas stone and put an edge back on the used blades in short time.  I knew these things would sharpen well, but hadn't sharpened a utility knife blade in a long dreary time.   The good part of a utility knife is not having to sharpen it.  Toss the blade.  Put in a new one.  Or break off a dull section.  I get it.  I just like to sharpen things and had the time in this case.  Best wishes.  G
 ;)

Day 17
I'd heard about EDCing a utility knife for a couple of years, on forums and through some videos, but I thought it was a silly idea.  I've carried some pretty nice premium knives over the years so the idea of one of these little, replaceable razor blade knives just didn't do it for me.  Then I selected one of them out of the Sos Surprise Box  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=90040.0  because I figured the best time to try one would be when it was free. Turns out that these utility cutters are all you need for most of our daily cutting tasks such as opening packages, cutting tape, cutting string, etc.. They really are very convenient, and it is nice to replace the blade whenever it gets dull.  I liked the light weight WorkPro so much that when I lost my first, I replaced it with a 3 pack.  But, then again, that is the MTO way, isn't it? :salute:
