Day 23: gotta admit, utility blades peel oranges pretty good.

Plus, the tip is always pointy. It's not like my regular knives that often feature blunted points from poor sharpening or even were crudely refurbished broken tips.

Day 25

Olfa CTN-1 Carton Cutter

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Front with compact scissors and steel ruler

Got this the same day as the Makita. The cutter is very cheap here as well at hkd$7 and comes with 1 blade (5 snaps). But the replacement blade is even cheaper at hkd$5, with 5 blades in a pack. Usd$ 1 = hkd$ 7.8.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Parts

The cutter consists of a folded plastic part and a outside handle bent from a sheet of steel. Sliding the blade out exposes 1 corner out.

Very slim package and the corner of blade is very strong and does not flex at all. Very good at opening boxes and cutting tough things. Since not a lot is exposed, it is rather hard to do precision things like cutting a piece of paper in half precisely.

Action shot separating bottle parts for recycling

Cutting paper is a struggle

They advertise it is easy to carry in a pocket, but I am afraid of pushing the blade out when seating down and cut the pants or myself. Some of the paint comes off when trying to remove the lable with iso alcohol... Given the flat surface I may just put some random stickers or tapes over it.

My short comment is this is as minimalist as a cutter can get.

@ReamerPunch: does that one tend more toward yellow or orange?

It's my yellow no name cheap snap-off. I keep it in my work bag.

Day 25 and a Merry Christmas to all! :like:

My Fiskars Pro utility knife. What a tank. Lock up is rock solid opened and closed. Flicks open and closed like a dream. And comfortable. Bit heavy, but oh well.

Going to be playing catch up as we were out at the uncle in-law's property last weekend.   It's 13 acres of beautiful East Texas piney woods.  I love it out there but it is very hard to get a signal out there unless you're with one of the local cell carriers.  Helps you enjoy nature just a bit more by disconnecting.  ;)

Day 21 - catch up

Helping break down some boxes for the wife's uncle so I can take them down to the trash bin.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 22 - catch up

Came home to some package duty.  Some Christmas presents had to be freed from their confines so I could wrap them and put them under the Christmas tree.

Day 23 - catch up

I was inspired by Cody's post of the Valet Auto Strop Razor Utility knife, so I found a reasonably priced one on fleaBay.  Gave it a bit of cleaning to get rid of most of the gunk but I'd like to give it a good polish as well.  I'm going to try and restore the original blade that came with it.  I managed to pull the reinforcement off a Husky single edge blade and it fit just fine in the slot.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

@BPRoberts: fantastic use of cord cutter notch! :salute:

@cody6268: broken tips are the worst, followed closely by chipped blades.

@LoopCutter: hope you had a great visit!

@kaevin: even with those faults, it seems like good value for the money.

@ReamerPunch: for its good qualities, I think I'd overlook the bit of extra weight.

@Adam5: I imagine so, especially if those toys needed batteries!

@Alan K: what kind of cigar was that?

@JonesE: you now have me curious as to what model my Stanley is. I'll show it before the challenge concludes.

@AzteCypher: great job catching up! Would love to see some lagomorph photos.

Merry Christmas to awl!

Day 25

No utility knife use today, so here are the EABs with my Christmas dinner. There is lasagna under all that parmesan cheese.

Day 24:

Merry Christmas everyone!

Some of what I've used alongside the only knife I got for Christmas, a Classic SD clone. Probably going on my truck keys, as aside from my shop keys that have a Buck Nano Bantam, most of my keys have a Nite Ize Doohickey or Proto J100 at most.

@kaevin: even with those faults, it seems like good value for the money.

If I need to open a dozen of boxes in a row or cutting straps tied up boxes a lot, I think they are very good that way. Given the way it slides open, it's too tight for my taste to keep sliding open and close, or if it is loosened (I think that would be hard)  it is dangerous to keep in pocket.

It is well designed for its purpose.

@cody6268: looks like a good companion for your truck keys!

@ReamerPunch: nice EAB! :tu:

@kaevin: I was never good with a claw machine. Hope your kids did well!

@Alan K: still no boxes to cut up here. But I do have some cardboard "remnants" that are future test subjects.

@LoopCutter: a very good-looking Soddie!

Day 26

The seller from whom I purchased the Day 24 Legos used a nifty address label. I wanted to keep it with the sets I purchased, so I used the slide-out job from a previous job assignment to remove it from the envelope. I'll probably trim the manila paper off with MiniChamp scissors later on.

Day 27

I finally got around to a project I have wanted to do for a while now. I swapped the blades, liners, and axis bars around on two of my Benchmade 551s. I put the 20CV blade back in the 551-1 gray and blue scales. I then put the D2 blade back in the Camp Perry knife. I believe the model number is 551-1304. When that was done, I did a scale swap on a 550SBK-S30V that I picked up in a trade. The blade, liners, and axis bar was installed in a set of Micarta scales that I never fully liked. So I scale swapped them with a new set of black G10 scales with some titanium back spacers. I think this will be my daily carry for a while once the utility knife challenge ends. The Free P4 gripped the scale spacers while I installed the scale screws. The fastback freed the scales from the bubble wrap mailer.
