What is the deal with patches?

This seems to be becoming a new tradition around here.   :facepalm:

Last month I ordered some PVC patches to help celebrate the 18th anniversary and I was assured that they would be here if not before the 1st, then at least within the first couple of days of the month.

I got photos during production and everything looked great.  I even got a courier shipping label on June 27th and figured it would only be a few days.

Naturally I checked the tracking number a few times over the next day or two, but oddly enough it was never scanned as having been picked up.  I contacted the seller and he insisted that nothing was wrong, DHL must have a malfunction in their tracking system etc.  He even sent me a screenshot of his tracking, showing that the package had made it's way from UAE (where the production facility is) to Germany where it would undoubtedly be sent on to Canada.

Of course, conveniently his screenshot didn't also show a tracking number.

I also didn't think that UPS would let their entire system between UAE and Germany go down for long, and definitely not for several days.

Is this starting to sound familiar?

It should.

What is the deal with patch manufacturers?  This is the second patch supplier that seems very eager to make them, but then can't seem to actually send them.   ::)

Anyways, anyone can make a mistake, not the end of the world, even though that tracking screenshot seems like absolute BS, and I was told initially that they were coming from the UK and not UAE.  But, many sellers use producers in other countries where labor rates are favorable, so whatever.

I wait a few days as requested by the seller to let them sort it out, although I told them that we wanted this stuff for our celebration in July and every day that went by these held less and less value.

When the seller seemed to stop responding after asking me to wait two more days, I started the dispute process with Paypal.

That apparently lit a fire under the seller as he then contacted me with a new tracking number, this time with FedEX.

And also this time coming from Pakistan.

The expected delivery date should now be this coming Wednesday, but whether it will be the patches we ordered, different patches from a different facility in a different country or simply a big package full of anthrax I can't say at this point.

Either way, the picture they sent of the patches looks great.  The only real question is whether they will actually get here so they can be made available to members?

Shall we start taking bets?   :D

Will they arrive?
Will they be what we ordered?
When will they arrive (if they do)?
Will Grant be horribly poisoned and/or disfigured when opening the package?
What will they look like?

Inquiring minds want to know!   :rofl:

One company I found says they source them from UAE, Pakistan and do some in Canada.

I think I am going to try a follow up order with them, but they don't take Paypal which is a bit less convenient for me.

Will they be what we ordered? - Kinda, sorta, maybe...

After expanding this story very significantly (and not boring you all with the details) the shipment of patches has arrived!  Not the original ones pictured above (long story), but the second set of patches from the same seller- aka the ones from Pakistan!

Here are a couple of quick and dirty photos for your initial amusement, and I will post info on how you can get one for yourself later on... with some better photos to really make you want one!   :D

I have to warn you though, there are only 25 of these original patches available since I had lots of time to place a re-order and I just wanted to check the quality.  I've already started the order process for more, but from a different supplier, so the replacements may be different.... for example I wanted these to be 5 inches, and they are only about 4 inches, so new ones will probably be bigger...

Anyways, who knows what the next ones will be like!

Start a new thread with photos of your zip ties in use Complete a 30 day challenge for carrying a different Multi tool each day of the week based on one of the daily carry threads Participate in a Challenge and post a photo of a Traditional Scout Knife (No SAK's Allowed) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of any gear for thirty (30) consecutive days during the MTo anniversary month.
