My Wave was STOLEN!
on: July 29, 2024, 07:48:04 PM
I'm so ticked off right now... In short: we were away for a week, and the cats were taken care of by a neighbour's kid we've used before. The kid was free to spend the night with the cats and to bring a friend. She has always been very responsible - well, not this time. See, she brought not a friend but friendS, and naturally, couldn't see what they were up to. So, a coin purse went missing. And my gosh darn Wave I've had for years and years. Both were in the same drawer. Naturally, I reported the incident to the Police, and time will tell if we ever find out who the culprit was. Being stupid kids, they just clam up and won't squeal. Someone will pay

Oh well, I'll get a Wave Plus. The ergos and tools on the Wave make it the best allround MT for light tasks around the house, a bit heavy as it is for belt carry.

What bugs me most - apart from the stupidity and gullibility of that *** kid - is that I also lost my favourite MT pouch, a vintage Blackhawk mag pouch, that can not be replaced.

I would tell the girl to her face that she was a thief and a liar, and unfortunately she would know that every day of her life.  Then I would tell her that I forgive her.  Once I cooled down some (a couple of weeks maybe) then buy another Leatherman if I still wanted one.  You learned a lesson you should have already known about leaving teens alone in your house.  It never works out.  Best wishes.  G

Well, to be fair it might not be her but one of the friends - without her knowing. Which would be a betrayal of her trust as well.

But yes, big difference between one friend and a party where she can't have full control. And that was on her.

It was so unbelievable. The kid is what you would call an honour student, always very nice and courteous, a good kid through and through, and we are close with the family. She did get a proper bollocking from her folks and was in tears. I don't suspect her at all. I mean, she had no use for small change or a MT, their family (like ours) is outdoorsy and they have all the toys. Her mistake was trusting too much, and obviously she did not know her "friends" well enough. And to let them in our house was incredibly stupid.

Thing is, we have nothing of significant value in our house. The money was maybe €10, tops, in nickles and dimes. So the thief is a clepto, with good tool taste.

Oh well, we have some names and they will be given to the police. Let those brats sweat some. Lesson learned, never trust a kid.

Money has no home.  It comes and goes.  A hinged piece of steel isn't worth worrying about.  The bad part is there is now a shadow between you and your neighbors.  I doubt that ever goes away.  Certainly not completely.  Best wishes.  G

:iagree:

I doubt the girl you entrusted to care for your cats is the culprit, but she did have a lapse in judgment. Whatever little smurfbird took your Wave and other items will get his comeuppance eventually.
