Day 25: Ice Cream Sunday

I awlways think of the Cybertool L as a sort of Cyber-Swisschamp, although the wiki tells me it's technically a Cyber-Handyman. Couldn't just slide the fish scaler in there, that would've just been overkill. Truth be told, I've never really understood any of the Cybertool configurations. I think they'd sell a lot more Cyber-Compacts (I know I'd buy one) than Cyber-Spartans. For the M (it's much more fun to call them Cyber-Xs too) I think I'd bring back the Troubleshooter so you got saw and pliers. That way the full lineup is:

S: The bit driver, and not much else
M: All tools you could reasonably use on electronics
L: All the tools.

Day 25

See Through Sunday

The discontinued Cybertool S is the only one of the Cybertool line I feel is really comfortable as a pocket carry.

It is also the most comfortable model to use, as its height roughly approximates its width, and the bit driver is perfectly centered within the tool.

It’s a great choice if you have a lot of screwing to do.  Wait, that doesn’t sound quite right, but you know what I mean.

I think I’ve said this before, but the Cybertool I would most like to see would have the following layers:

1- large blade, combo tool, corkscrew
2 - bit driver
3 - pliers

That would be a lot of capability in a tool that is still reasonable to pocket carry IMO.

[ wound up browsing the SAK wiki in our hotel room one night on that trip, and eventually wound up here, with far too many a fantastic variety of SAKs.
FTFY. :pok: :D In seriousness, great story and nice older Spartan! :tu:

Skeletool  RX rode with me today.
:like:  Man alive, I need to get a Skele of my own...

A Cyber-Compact would be pretty neat. I'd like to see a Cyber-Combo-Electrician!

More great stuff for today, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 25
See-Through Sunday

I have long been meaning to photograph the pink Classic SD that belonged to Mrs. FX. When I dug it out, I remembered that I awlso have an orange Rally that isn't Tatty...just grubby. :D  Though both could use a bath they're presentable enough for a challenge photo.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Rally was purchased as part of a lot; an orange Rambler was the other item. I am pretty sure the Rambler went to live with Fireman.

Slipjoint Saturday
I.K.co 2blade

As a teenager I was always scrounging yard sales and second hand stores for tools and knives.  One sale turn out to be an old small engine repair shop which had closed. He had already sold or given away most of it; what was left was 5 hand toolboxes of just random shop junk, parts, garbage, and tools...I bought all of them.
It was my 1st good wrench set, but I also found this little knife burried in a box of nuts&bolts.
I have honestly never done anything to clean this knife up beyond giving it a quick coat of oil and judging by these cardboard cuts I probably should have sharpened it before carrying.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Just picked these two up this weekend.  My daughter took a shining to the pink one.  Look like it might make a good Christmas present.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 26
MiniChamp Monday

Did anyone ever notice that the MiniChamp thing is listed twice in the Daily Thread chart.  Must be because it is twice as nice.  I have posted to the mini thread a few times, and carried this same mini for a month during a challenge.  Probably wrote a bunch of annoying comments.  I don't remember.  Then I did a Classic challenge.  I really didn't notice much difference in utility.  Be that as it may, the MiniChamp is still a fun SAK.
This month just dragged along for the first 10 days or so, then sped up toward the middle.  I think there was a time/space displacement vortex possibly caused by space junk that fell in the area.  Might have been necromancy caused by my still unseen and possibly undead neighbor.  Possibly just boredom and heat from the Dog Days which ended August 11 or the hangover from their lassitude.
Where was I?  Post a picture.  Got it.  Best wishes.  G

Day 26: Monday Oneday!

I have been trying not to show the same tool twice through the challenge. Technically, I have shown this Evo 63 previously, but this time it has new shoes!

I used to have an Evogrip 63 in black with DLC implements before I sold it. That was a cool one as well.

Day 26: MONEday

Carried this 84mm "Waiter Plus" today. Someone must be cranking these out somewhere, since they're one of the "mods" (it's just a scale swap) I see most often on ebay. It's a nice tool set, with two minor issues:

1. No straight pin hole

2. The corkscrew is where you have to put your hand to use the combo tool.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I fixed the first by adding a safety pin to the corkscrew. It's gotten a little bent over the years, but it still works. I think the gold looks nice with the black scales.

The second isn't really fixable, it's gotta go somewhere, and on a one layer knife there's not much room. I think these small/basic knives is where Alox really shines (I awlmost grabbed the Bantam today).

The combo tool is not as good of a can opener as the can opener, but it does get the job done.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Carrying this got me thinking of a combination that I've never seen suggested (though I'm sure someone has thought of) that I think could be really great: Blade, awl, combo tool, file. I'd love it as an 84, but it'd be fun in 93 too. Kind of a "gentleman's scout" knife. Dedicated openers aren't super important for office/urban carry, so the slightly less good combo tool would get a pass there. The awl is a great beater blade (and awlso and awl) thus making the loss of the small blade less severe. The nail file is handy, and the tip makes a great tiny screwdriver, which helps cancel out the mediocre driving performance of the combo tool.

Whaddya think?

Day 27
Two Layer Tuesday

The littlest two layer.  (I think I can.  I think I can.)  Hard working scuffed up Classic that I carried every day for the Classic Challenge.  I got out the shoestring tether that I used to harness the wild blue Classic with so it wouldn't run away.  Looked here and there for the pink paperclip that completed the contraption and discovered that I lost it somewhere.
This Rotation challenge dragged on me a little.  It doesn't bode well for jumping into another challenge on Sunday.  I told myself yesterday that if I found my pink paperclip I would carry a 65mm Wenger and join in the Delemont dealie.  It hasn't turned up yet.  Carrying an Esquire for a month appeals to me, I think.  I will let everyone know.  Best wishes.  Gary

Protech PDW Invicta auto. Not the sliciest of knives, but it is stout and the auto action is very strong! Good tactical folder. Would be better if it was easier to open with the off hand.

After the Waiter yesterday, this Cadet felt natural. Awlways a joy to carry (and practically unnoticable in pocket). Still think it'd do well with an awl and combo tool in place of the opener layer...

I used to love big knives: bowie, camp chopper, kikri, scout machete...then I moved to the city.

That is its purpose. It’s a “safety” I guess you could say. Some automatics have it, some do not. I personally opt to carry this one with the “safety” off and have not had any issues with unintended deployments. I had a protech “whiskers” that I sold to buy my Sebenza. That one’s safety was that  the actuator is hidden. It was a fun party trick.
