I have actually used the firesteel on the signal with some success believe it or not. It’s definitely not ideal. But it can work if you have something that catches a spark really well.
I think of it as a backup to a much larger ferro rod.

I'm not really sure how many people really like the translucent SAKs.
I like them, and intend to get more.

Another great day, y'awl :2tu:

Day 4
Slipjoint Sunday

I'm experimenting with a new background here. It's the case for Mrs. FX's tablet.

Day4
Slipjoint Sunday featuring the RoughRider rr1080 electrician knife. This is one of the knives  I used in a Traditional Challenge a few years back.

I have a feeling that's the directio this rotation challenge is going to take me; dusting off things in the case that haven't been carried in a long while.

I am liking this challenge for that reason. It’s been fun to get out the stuff that rarely gets carried. I have some stuff I am looking foward to carrying this month.

Day 4

See Through Sunday

This Cybertool M has a great tool set, but is just a bit too heavy and bulky for comfortable pocket carry IMO.  It has, however, found a home in my laptop bag.

Day 4 : See Through Sunday

Wenger Microlight Pocket Toolchest - Fire Red

Freshly cleaned, oiled, and sharpened.  Just needs the scales polished up a bit to remove some of those micro scratches.  The Wenger shield is long gone so no danger of wiping that off.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 5
Monrogue Monday

Nobody has exhumed this daily thread in a while.  It used to be fairly popular.  Long before my time, naturally.  Well, let's put down the spade and pry open the lid.
The photo is of my familiar Montrooper.  Best wishes.  G

It’s actually the inside of the scale. Either way here is an article:

The Victorinox info that came along with the knives says  the scales are coated on the inside with 24K gold.  Sounds good to me.  It sure is a looker.  I noticed the article you linked to has a link back to MTO.  The MTO link has some good info.  Best wishes.  G

I didn’t notice that at first! Neat!!

According to the MTO link it’s not actually gold but according to victorinox/the article it is?. Who knows.

Edit: i understand now. The liners are nickel silver and the scales have gold plating inside.

Day 5: doubled up today. Micarta Monday and Monday Oneday!

If I didn’t carry a Sebenza almost every day, I think I would carry a Buck. The Buck company is great. Really nice hollow ground blade (in s30v in this case). Opens nice and smooth. Just a good knife.

Day 5: Monday Oneday

I don't see a lot of people posting about the Evoke, so I'll throw one in. I'd guess the reason they don't see a lot of action is that, unless you're a huge Victorinox fan, they aren't doing much to stand out to stand out from any one of the 9001 other folding hunters out there, while costing almost double what a classic 110 does.

That said, Vic does make a very nice knife. It's actually lighter than a 110, despite being a bit bigger. Smoother operation too. If the order of the day is "big manual folder" it's my first choice. If you can find a deal on one, it's a good pickup.

I usually carry it with just the lanyard, but I popped the pocket clip on today. It's definitely solid, maybe even a little too solid. About the only way I've found to get it off is to put a loop of cord through and pull way harder than it seems like I should need to. Guess it's a better safe than sorry situation.

It's awlso (by accident, I'm sure) almost the bisexual pride flag colors. I've had a few friends who usually give me a nervous look if I pull out anything bigger than a Classic take an interest in it. A little knifevangelism is fun now and then.

Congratulations to your son, and a beautiful SAK! :like:

Sure!

This Cybertool M has a great tool set...
I'm half-tempted to get an SAK with a bit driver, just to see how well Victorinox did it. They'd be a no-go around aircraft, though.

I may pick up an Evoke in the future, probably in olive green. That's especially true if I get close to the Alox Colors Level III badge.

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 5
Monday Oneday

Unsurprisingly, we have an Alox Bantam. It's shown with a scruffy steel cent. Who knows how long it spent in my basement?

That's a nice looking Evoke.  It always draws my attention.

Day 5 : Minichamp Monday

It's always by my side on my keychain.  I've been impressed with it's ability ever since I did the Minichamp challenge.

I think you’re on the right track.  As someone who regularly carries blades in this size range, I wanted to be excited about the Evoke, but haven’t been able to bring myself to purchase one.  For me, it comes down to the following:
- Street price of $120 is expensive for what it is.
- Ho hum steel
- At over six ounces, I’m sure it’s a tank but simply too heavy

I'm half-tempted to get an SAK with a bit driver, just to see how well Victorinox did it.
The bit driver is a phenomenal tool.  I’d even go so far as to suggest it may be the best thing out there for small to medium size screws.

Well I got behind a couple days being sick.  I’ll have to make it up on the other end and keep going from here.  Tried to carry my Swisschamp and Minichamp for Sunday and Monday but they sat on the bedside table.

Day 6: Two Layer Tuesday

Today I’ll carry my Alox Electrician.  This is by far my favorite Alox and one of my favorite pocket knives in general.  No key ring makes it feel like a proper pocket knife and is more comfortable.  I think we all can agree the strengths of the 93mm blade, reamer, and cap lifter.  The electrician blade is a wonderfully useful wharncliffe blade.
