@Grand_Banana: cool edits! I'd like an Alox MiniChamp in a color other than silver, but they're a little pricey.

@AzteCypher: possibly excepting dessert, bacon goes with any meal!

@Cypren: I can only imagine that could potentially turn into a rat's nest. Hope no damage was done!

@IMR4198: you are correct about the MRE-alikes being short of those little things. At least the food was edible.

@G-Dizzle: looks like the MiniChamp is ideal for fatherly obligations!

@MrToolJunkie: no worries. You should be caught up in no time flat.

Y'awl are doing great!

Long day. No use of the MC today, but here it is sitting on the bathroom counter as I unloaded my pockets for the night.

Day 23

Mini opens coffee K-cup.  Some weirdness crept in with this photo.  I reached for a bottle of water from the fridge to make the coffee.  Coffee tasted funny.  Sort of like a peach or something.  Cup was clean.  Bottled water.  Had the same coffee before.  Sugar was fine.  What tha?  It was funky so I poured it out.  Then I thought to check the water.  You guessed it.  It was a bottle of fruity flavored clear water.  It even left my coffee cup smelling strange after I rinsed it.  The chromostones or polyaneurisms in fruity flavored water must be powerful.  Ick.  Best wishes G

Well I’ve missed 3 days, which is crazy because I came back to the thread thinking it had just been one day.  Still carrying the MC just forgetting to take pics and document with how busy we got.  Might have to try again next year for the badge.

Day 23

Wife got her COVID booster yesterday and has been down for the count today, so I’ve mostly been taking care of things around the house for her. It’s 11pm now and I’m back out in the shop trying to finish up the wiring work from yesterday. Almost done with the electrical; next will be installing dust collection ductwork.

I’m going to bed every night dreaming of the day when I can start working in the shop instead of on the shop.

Day 24

I noticed one of our challenge members didn't make a photo post a couple of days ago.  Might need to have a check to see you are really up to date on your challenge stuff.  Doesn't do much good to mention this as it has been my experience that not all people on the challenge read the posts.
I am still experimenting with the MREs.  Here is what the Chili Mac looks like.  The self heaters are a disappointment.  Sometimes they heat things up just a little so you can eat them.  Never really a hot meal.  I'm still learning.  Had a Sweet and Sour Rice with Chicken yestiddy.  Tasted okay.  I generally add salt to these Low Sodium MREs to make them more palatable.  There are little salt and pepper packs in the spork/napkin wrapper.  WW2 K-rations had a little pack of ciggies in them.  Little pack holding 3, I think.  I haven't been brave enough to try another smoothie pack from the MREs.  I saw one that was a Sweet Potato and Grape or something.  I didn't throw it away, so I will see if I can get some of it down later.  Best wishes.  G

Every so often, a military MRE will have a ration heater that's a dud. Seems to have been particularly problematic with the early ones. And a sweet potato grape smoothie...no, thanks. That's a little too weird for me!

One brand has no-salt crackers which are pretty good for a filler.  The other has a flat biscuit that looks like hard tack.  It actually is pretty good for something in an envelope with long term storage life.  I put some of the sunflower butter on it.  That tastes okay but looks positively scatological.  It definitely won't take the place of Nutella.  I will say it is better than Vegemite.  I have decided to try the sweet potato drink tomorrow.  Best wishes.  Gary

I like sweet potato.  I like grapes.  Not sure I'd like them combined but I'm willing to try it once.

Went out of town to visit the outlaws.  While they do have internet, I wasn't near their place long enough to post.  Took the kids to the Texas Renaissance festival and they had a blast.  Real spotty signal out there so no posting from there either.  Time to play catch up.

Day 22

Used the flat head to pop off these retainers from the peg board hooks.

Day 23

I 3D printed an axolotl for my daughter and it finished printing shortly before we left out of town.  I decided to take it with me and used the flat head to pop off the support structure from it's head.  Not sure why the kids like the axolotls so much.  They're not particularly attractive creatures in real life.

Day 25

I had to look up axolotl.  If there were ever any here after the last ice age, the cave raccoons probably ate them.  Today is the day for the sweet potato smoothie.  Probably slide right down the hatch.  Might not stay there.  Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite things.  The old folks here used to put big stock in the ones with the white innards.  I used to be able to buy them, but I can't get them in the stores.
How about a coffee photo?  Getting down to the last little paroxysms in this challenge.  You can tell once the coffee and sweet potato smoothie pix show up.  Best wishes.  G

Supplemental update

I remembered that I was supposed to report on the sweet potato/banana/grape smoothie.  I am terrible about losing things.  That didn't come in handy this time.  I found the smoothie pack first thing.  I snipped off one corner of the pack after shaking it up a little.  Poked it in my mush and gave it a squeeze.  It had a sort of gritty consistency, and the first taste was of baked sweet potato.  Mixed with grape juice.  The sweet potato drowned out most of the banana flavor.  Very sweet.  I tried three medium sized slurps, then rolled over and tapped out.  So far, both smoothies I have tried taste like they are half sugar.
Last thing I tried that triggered the gag reflex was some moon cake.  Think pumpkin pie with a duck egg in the middle.  Made with durian, I think.  I had one piece.  It was dry and unappealing.  The petrified duck egg in the middle was NOT a treat.  Then on my second or maybe third piece, the self-preservation anti-poisoning genetically installed gag reflex set it.  Not just a gag, but the 'something is wrong here' dry heaves.  That didn't happen with the smoothie.  At least not at this dosage.  I drowned the after taste with some soda.  Best wishes.  G
