Day 2

Starting the day off with the med list… on a course of steroids and antibiotics for pneumonia and bronchitis.

I made this initial list with a regular blue pen and didn’t realize the MC pen is blue.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Then had to pop down and flip a breaker. I wondered if I could open the box if all I had was the MC.  Maybe! The ruler flat head is maybe strong enough in an emergency. It would be better to just have a full size SAK or MT.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

In fact, the PST even had trouble because I last tightened these bolts with the Electrician flat head and torqued a little harder than I would have with the PST flat head.

My feelings on moving are well-documented. Soda in glass bottles is great. I have one waiting for the PST challenge. And Gary is making me crave cinnamon raisin bread.

Great work, y'awl! :tu:

I'm enjoying the challenge so far.  Hopefully friend Grand Banana can get things straightened out with some meds.  I don't know what is worse, being sick or having sick family members.  Looks like a couple of our challengers didn't make kick-off.  Things rarely go as planned, of course.  Lots of nice photos.
If I can make it to next Wednesday, I will be another year older.  I looked back to last year's MiniChamp challenge and see that I bought myself a pair of socks for a present.  I wonder what I will get this year?  I can hardly wait.  Best wishes.  Gary

Ah I have to stop by the hardware store this weekend… they have Jarritos. Now I may grab one.  I always have trouble with the MC bottle opener. It takes me a couple prys.

I missed Gary’s cinnamon toast this morning. I make it the same way but half and half sugar/brown sugar. Happy early birthday! Maybe this year a new SAK?

I use the same hot water treatment as seen in Felix Immler's video but I let mine sit for about 2 minutes.

I then start prying at one end with the knife from another 58mm.  I get as close as I can to the pin and start prying with steady force.  Then I move over to the other pin and do the same.  If it's being difficult, I'll soak it for another two minutes.

I've been able to reuse a few scales by doing the above.  You might still leave little slivers of cellidor behind but in my experience it's never been enough to make the scale unusable.

The first time I tried pulling scales off I didn't leave it in the hot water long enough and I ended up marring the pin attachment which made the scale fit a bit loose when I tried to reuse it.

  Thanks  :hatsoff:

I'm awlso going to be observing from the rear. Picking up a new MiniChamp remains a priority, but I don't know where exactly it landed on the list. I have a potentially great use for it. And a single AAA flashlight might be a great addition to my work tools.

Y'awl did a great job kicking it off! :tu:

I think you said in the PST thread you’re adding to the work toolbox.  Hopefully you can awlso find a good used MC for cheap to add to your keychain!

Day 2

It sure is dark outside.  And quiet.  I think I will welcome the return of standard time this year.  Breakfast with cinnamon toast.  Simple stuff.  Put some butter on one side of the bread.  Sprinkle on some sugar and finish with some cinnamon.  Brown it under the broiler.  The butter soaks and spreads and the cinnamon sinks down into the melted sugar.  Yummers.  A Chinese lady told me they made the same thing with canned biscuits in a restaurant she used to own.
MiniChamp gathered around for the finished confection and brought a Classic friend.  A little light outside now.  Either my eyes got used to the gloom, or I write very slowly.  Best wishes.  G

That looks good! Reminds me if childhood. My grandmother used to make toast similar to that.

Who knew cinnamon toast was going to be so appealing to everyone?  I should have made enough for everybody.  I got a little low on counterfeit Pop Tarts.  There is generally bread in the house.  Sometimes I remember to use some bread in a confectionary endeavor.  I used up a whole can of cinnamon last winter.  Then all the notices came out that there was a recall because of lead in the brand I used.  I think lead is supposed to mess up your brane, but I feel gooder as always so maybee it didn't..... I frogot what I was going to said.
Remember to set your stuff back.  Daylight retrograde temporal adjustment.  Since I put a new battery in my Casio, now it has enough voltage to actually adjust.  Best wishes.  G

Day 2

Busy day today with the kids' games but, the MC had time to do mail call today.

Day 2

Long day in the shop pulling cable in the walls and wiring a new main panel. MiniChamp did duty as a wire stripper and utility knife through the day, but I didn't remember to take a photo. So here's one of popping open a drink at the end of the day as I collapse into my desk chair.

Day 3

The mistletoe is way up beyond reach in the tree tops, but the holly is at ground level.  It was a bit of a juggling act to get the wee Swiss knifey to sit still long enough to take a photo.  By the time I got home, my hand was itching all over from contact with the prickles.
Thankfully my compooter and phone reset the time themselves.  I only have one functioning clock on the premises and my battered old Casio.  I will tackle the Casio confusion later.  Let's see if the MTO will let me post a photo today.  I had a fit yesterday when I tried to post a photo on the Opinel and Svord thread.  Best wishes.  G

Day 3:

Lots of various MC uses today.

Used main blade to slice tape getting boxes ready for recycling, went through some mail from yesterday, and open antibiotics packaging.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Revised some measurements for radiator cover materials with the pen and light. Used the LED a couple times last night too and this morning.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Then while out and about used the Phillips to tighten my glasses.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And scissors and file to trim one of the kid’s broken nails

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I’ve also started used the Rx spatula to open up the tape on baby wipes. I can’t get my finger nails under it so always use whatever MT or SAK in my pocket to pry it open.

I’m going to start logging tools used each day (0 or 1 used or not used, not frequency each day):

Flat head x1
Pen x2
LED x1
Phillips x1
Scissors x1
Nail file x1
Spatula x1
Main blade x1

Day 4

Anyone ever notice that when you mention something in particular the next thing that happens is you start seeing ads for it on your browser page?  If I were to mention MENUDO, then I guarantee some vendor would want to start selling me cans of the stuff.  That is what happened when I mentioned a particular brand of cooler on one of the other threads.  Like the red one in the photo today.  I knew the brand, but not the model.  So what happened?  I started seeing a flock of ads swarming around my browser like buzzards to a dead coyote.  At least I learned what the model of my little carry around cooler is now.  And I know if some rascal filches mine, that I can buy another just like it at my local ACE hardware or order as many as I want online.
On to the photo.  A MiniChamp and a 65mm Wenger dinger thinger comparing scissors.  Neither one has a can opener.  Can't open a can of menudo with either one.  Menudo.
One of the friends speculated about what feeble old IMR might buy as a self inflicted birthday present.  Hmmm?  Probably not a SAK.  I seem to have one or two already.  Plus there isn't really a decent display of Vics in town to tempt me.  I made a cursory search for some low-grade boots at Walmart the last time I was in.  Not much of a selection.  I used a little of the home repair panacea (duct tape) to keep my internally water-cooled footwear in commission for another day or two.   It isn't cold outside yet, so if they prove permeable no biggie.  Best wishes.  G

I sat this one out this year but I do follow along.  I've got to say that a Silvertech MiniChamp is about as purdy as it gets.

Good day 4 awl!

Day 4:

Some diverse use today.  Main blade to open mail and make some cardboard wings for my kids (they’re jet robots, AKA transformers). Scoring the cardboard worked really well to cut without doing a number on the blade. Used the pen to trace the cutouts.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I tried using the spatula as a flat head driver in an attempt to replace a door draft guard. Did not work super well, so that task was taken over by the PST.  One was stripped to hell so I even needed to grab the engineers pliers.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Phillips adjusted the same glasses screw. I’m guessing it’s a tad stripped and won’t tighten.

Haven’t had a chance to use the other two blades.

Tools used:

Flat head x2
Pen x3
LED x1
Phillips x2
Scissors x1
Nail file x1
Spatula x2
Main blade x2
