MT pliers are just not that great IMO, and each to his or her own but I rarely if ever need EDC pliers.  If I do, it is worth the short walk to get some real Knipex or similar pliers that do the job better.

The Swiss Champ is easier to carry, and for me has more everyday utility.  But we are all different on that on.

the SwissTool showed up today  :ahhh

carried the SwissChamp in my pocket and the SwissTool on my belt in the sheath that it came with and it surprisingly wasn't too heavy or bulky.

please excuse the unsightly fingerprints

this Standard SwissTool is definitely a BEAST :viking:

Wow I can’t believe those prices!  :like: great finds.  You really have all the bases covered with both a SC and ST.  It’s also good to hear that carrying both isn’t overwhelming in weight.

thanks i got lucky with these two. definitely have all the bases covered carrying both. as far as weight it's not bad but with my flashlight it's right at the cusp of what i'd carry weight wise so it works out.

the standard SwissTool is definitely a BEAST

I don’t think I’ve seen a comparison of the Phillips between those two.  The ST Phillips is quite long but also looks a tad wonky, like it wouldn’t fit where a more extended reach is needed.  I wonder why it’s designed that way. Perhaps it reduces breaking under torque?

Now you just need a Workchamp  :pok:

I will try to do a more detailed comparison of some of the SC and ST tools with some pictures. That would be fun.

it's funny you mention the workchamp I've been looking at that model as well. However i like the ST BEAST so much I think I might pick up a SwissTool Spirit MX first. Some people on here mentioned it and I should have included it in the poll. My bad.

The ST MX weights in at only roughly one more ounce than the Swisschamp and has a OHO blade so it looks like it could be a good middle of the road carry between the SC and the standard ST BEAST. I'm going to see if I can find a deal on the ST MX and if so might pick one up just for fun  :dunno:

Would be nice if Victorinox would make an New Swisstool: I need an Clip but the last Swisstool whit Clip was sadly One Hand Open,
On the other side i found the Leatherman Free quite cool whit its Magnet Based Tools where i was even able to open the Bottle Opener and the Scissors whit one Hand, it was a full One Hand Tool and not that Clunky as the OHT ..  but sadly One Hand Blade so not allowed in Germany ..

So an Swisstool whit an Under 6 cm 2 Hand Open Blade whit an Clip and maybe the Screwdriver from the Cybertool whit Build In Bitholder would be awesome ..

Until, i prefer the Swisschamp..
Your SAK is only fully yours, when it bites you, or you opend a Trink of your joice whit it
SAKs i have: Huntsman Light (Red Transparent), Workchamp (Black), Wenger EvoGrip S557 (Red), Swisschamp XLT (Red Transparent).. Swisschamp (Blue Transparent) Cybertool L (Blue Celidor (custom scales) , Huntsman (Black Celidor) , Victorinox EvoGrip S557 (Red, but sadly lost in my house somewhere) Victorinox Delemont S17 and S57 ..  , waiting for: Swiza D09 Blue

I was a bit impressed at first when I got my FREE P4, but having to continuously (while doing something) push all the tabs to open all the tools and select the right one makes my thumb quite uncomfortable and annoying.
For me, even using my short nails to open the Swisstool Spirit is much less "stressful" and much more convenient.
The FREE P4 was returned, and my Spirit (finally with a clip) has taken its place as the primary EDC tool, again. :)

A good combination can be the CyberTool Lite. The lamp that illuminates the end of the Bit driver is a must. 8)

Explorer - how’s the Swisstool working out for you?  I tried carrying my SC for SC Sunday but ended up needing my Spirit too to work on the garage door.

hey GB carrying the standard SwissTool has really been working out well. I know what you mean about carrying the SC but then needing the ST to step in. This is what led me to just going ahead and grabbing the ST instead and leaving the SC in my bag- or even at home.

The ST is tough as nails. The tools are beefier and all of them lock solidly in place. the standard ST is a legit tool and can accomplish pretty much anything you throw it at. Love that about it.

The only drawback of the standard ST is its weight. It's a BEAST- it's quite heavy at a little more than 10 oz. Because of this I've been looking at possibly picking up the spirit MX with one-handed opening blade. The spirit weighs 3 ounces less but unfortunately does not have a ruler on the scales like the standard. I find myself using that ruler quite often so losing that feature is what's currently holding me up from picking up an MX. we will see if I get tired of lugging around the extra weight.

Cheers

That’s good to hear it’s working out. I know some of our friends here prefer Leatherman or whatever else but I think you can’t go wrong with a ST variant.

The lack of ruler has been a tad frustrating on Spirit.  My solution was just to carry a keyring tape measure, which was really more helpful in the long run.  Unless I forget it   Probably ends up being the same overall weight as the ST except now distributed in different places.

I wonder about the MX thumb stub being a hot spot? I think there’s some folks here that have reviewed it or commented on the stub.

i've got a few Leathermans and they are good MTs however the quality of the SwissTool is really quite remarkable. it's a thing of beauty.

how do you like the size of the Spirit? is it easy to carry in the pocket? any experience with the clip?

i'm curious about the MX nub creating a hot spot as well. i've seen reviews saying it doesn't and others saying it does so who knows.  :dunno:

I think the Spirit is the perfect size for pocket carry and the Vic clip is the best MT clip I’ve used.  I carry it everyday in side pockets and back pockets without issue. Helps to have stiffer or thicker fabrics.

same toolset as a Swisstool but at only 5.5 ounces

good suggestion although I wouldn't say it's exactly the same toolset because the SwissTool has several other tools that the Handyman doesn't have. also many times those 91mm pliers are too small or not robust enough for the job. plus the fact that all the ST tools lock so I'd most definitely grab the ST over the Handyman but that's just my personal preference.
