Olight Oclip
on: December 30, 2024, 03:14:54 AM
The Olight Oclip is like the espresso shot of flashlights—compact, powerful, and guaranteed to wake you up when you see just how bright it gets. Don’t let its small size fool you; this little light packs some serious lumens.

When it first launched, the buzz was unreal, and now I know why. The Oclip strikes an incredible balance between portability and performance. It’s like finding a superhero who wears plain clothes—you wouldn’t expect them to have that much power, but they do.

First Impressions

Unboxing the Oclip is straightforward. You get the light itself and a USB-C charging cord. No wall adapter included, but with all the spare ones floating around these days, it’s not a big deal.

The Oclip itself is impressively tiny, but don’t underestimate it. The clip is sturdy and lined with a protective rubber layer, so it grips securely without marking up whatever you attach it to. I’ve clipped it to my jacket during dog walks, and it holds snugly, giving me hands-free lighting while I juggle two leashes.

Real-World Use

The Oclip is incredibly versatile. It’s perfect for everyday tasks like finding something in your bag or lighting your way on nighttime strolls. Thanks to its four brightness levels, it’s equally at home in low-light situations as it is lighting up larger spaces.

Low Modes: Ideal for reading, quick searches, or working in close quarters.

Higher Modes: Great for trail walking, garage tinkering, or making sure you don’t step on any Legos during a power outage.

Switching between modes is simple: a quick press for on/off, holding the button to cycle through brightness levels, and a double-click for turbo mode when you want maximum output. It even has a red-light mode, which is great for preserving your night vision—or for when you want to feel like a spy defusing a bomb.

Charging and Battery Life

Charging the Oclip is wonderfully straightforward. The USB-C port is protected by a snug rubber gasket that keeps water and dust out. Plug it in, and you’re fully charged in about 90 minutes. This setup is a dream compared to lights that require removing the battery to charge—simple and efficient.

Final Thoughts

I don’t have much to nitpick about the Oclip, other than figuring out how to carry it as part of my EDC. It’s so compact that it doesn’t quite fit my usual flashlight routine. I might try attaching it to a keychain or explore other creative ways to keep it accessible.

But that’s a small challenge for such a versatile tool. Whether clipped to a jacket, stashed in a bag, or kept on standby for emergencies, the Oclip performs above and beyond. It’s the kind of tool you don’t realize you need until you use it—and then you wonder how you ever got by without it.

If you’re looking for a light that combines portability, power, and just plain fun, the Olight Oclip shines in every way that matters.

Good review David  :tu:

I bought a couple of these and I am really impressed so far. They are so small and yet so powerful at the same time. I now use one as my EDC and,  sometimes the Olight Oclip Pro I bought during Oclip's recent sale, a bit bigger (or perhaps I should say 'less small') and with a side switch to control function. The Pro is a god light but, overall, the standard Oclip as reviewed by David is more than adequate.

Thanks @greenbear it's a great little light that's only limited by your imagination. I'm amazed at the level of hate that Olight gets. Stuff about prices, output level, construction etc. I think they're just fine and there's lots to enjoy. When you look at it from a consumer perspective and not a flashlight junkie they're great.

We've been an Olight family for a while now and I've been considering getting the Oclip for when I take the doggo out for walks in the evening.  Thanks for this great review.
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

I have found them to be perfectly satisfactory.  I've not been using them for long, but no complaints so far  :salute:
