Powernoodle Day 7

Carrying the BO Klein for the first time today

Me too, except the chrome flavor (Klein 65200).  I love the little bit carrier as well, which securely holds the bits in the pocket.  Bit transport can be a little bit of a challenge for EDC.  For the most part, I have no use for torx or other specialty bits, so this selection is just right.

Day 6

To be honest, I forgot about the challenge this morning and did not carry a ratchet of any type to work today

Here is a photo of my Wiha mini ratchet set that I took after arriving home this evening:

The standard GoBox is down to $27! :ahhh
I paid $40 for my Terminator Blue

It is a Sears Craftsman Department 9 (tools) #44443 torque wrench.  Bought it new in the mid-70’s IIRC and validated by the “code” on the back of the manual booklet/
The handwritten paper is a record of torque verification done in a NIST lab in 1998.  It was close enough that no  calibration adjustments were considered necessary.  It is always stored at 10 ft-lb setting, the minimum.

Day 6:

Awkwardly used the snap on ratchet to tighten a loose window latch. A screwdriver would’ve been easier, faster, and more appropriate, but hey, this is a ratchet challenge!

Your comment reminded me of a saying from one of my past bosses.

Day 7:

Well, you are enablers! Especially ReamerPunch’s ratchet reviews. I started reading that thread thinking it may be handy to have a 1/4” bit ratchet to put in my little socket set bag in my portable tool case. I currently use my 1/4” snap-on ratcheting wrench for bit use, but as it is not made for that, it’s a complete pass through and fiddly to keep the bits in.

Then I saw the wiha set. And saw that it was under $27 on amazon. :ahhh A much better deal than almost any of the others. Same day delivery and it was waiting for me after work.

I’m fairly amazed at the small size of the kit and it all seems mostly quality. The ratchet is maybe not the best, the mechanism has some play in it. Not in the ratcheting action, but in the fit between the mechanism and the ratchet body.

I think I’d prefer the wera mini kraftform ratchet, but it is more money on its own than the entire wiha kit.

Overall I’m pleased with this. Thanks for all the helpful reviews RP!  :salute:

No use yet, but here are some pics on the table.

Klein makes nice stuff indeed. I was looking at the longer extension with the 3 or 4 flip sockets. And the black mini ratchet.

Day 8

A couple of pictures of old technology.  An errant soldering iron contacted the exterior of the case somewhere along the 50 year timeline I have owned this set.   When this set was bought, i’m not sure hex bits were an item.

That’s a cool set. I like the old craftsman stuff.

My dad always had/has an assortment of old craftsman tools, and the smell of off-gassing acetate screwdrivers is inextricably linked with my childhood.

My earliest self-bought hand tools were all craftsman, usually of the raised panel variety. Most of them are still trucking along today.
