This fine appliance right here, is Clipper.  He's been around quite a while and has served me well when the need arose.  He's been in retirement for several years but decided to come out and join us for a bit.

Clipper looks like he needs a break. :salute:

Some cool gear floating around. Looking to see what y'awl come up with.

Day 1

Carrying a Rainier today. I used the awl and cap-lifter to punch the chip out on this expired credit card.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Wrapped the card in duct tape for my duct tape carry.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Lengthwise seemed to make more sense, since the width of my tape roll is about the same as the card in this orientation.

Awlso pictured, my MacGyver Model 1 MT. I was going to get a bigger one, but I found this on the floor on the way into work. I decided to embrace the serendipity.

I admit that I was skeptical of the duct tape carry. Well, son of a gun, I actually used some today. I use these ropes to teach my kids knots sometimes. I duct tape one end, partially because when you need to do 30 or so at a time it's a lot quicker/easier than whipping it, and partially because "burnt end" and "duct tape end" are an easy way to call the ends for kids who don't know anything about rope.

One of the duct tape pieces slipped off, so I pulled the card out of my wallet, unwrapped a couple inches, and back in business.

Day 1

Decided on Serrated Spartan for this challenge.i added a straight pin and micro screwdriver to the corn screw. The  paper clip is on the key ring and I have a small roll of duct tape that I will pocket carry. So far just used the main blade to cut a loose string of of some pants. This is going to be a really fun challenge!!

This is my first challenge - I just couldn't miss The MacGyver Challenge.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

So here is my trusty Explorer - my first SAK, which I have bought while on a short family trip to Austria, in the winter between 2008 and 2009. It has served me well since then, and hopefully it will continue to do so.
The paperclip is wrapped around a segment of a bamboo skewer, as part of an experiment that I did recently with the 6th graders, to demonstrate the effects of static electricity.
The tape is wrapped around an IKEA pencil, which I had just sharpened using the Director. The Director is a more recent acquisition, and it has been revitalized by the nice people at Victorinox last year. Interestingly, they (probably) changed the liners under the stainless scales, but decided to drill them to match the hole that had been drilled through the whole knife. The initial hole had been poorly executed, so the scales and the liners were bent in its vicinity (who would drill through a Director, anyway?).
The pencil sharpening is a habit that I took up mostly from my Grandfather, who always used to carry a nice, simple little pocket knife similar to the Excelsior / Pocket Pal / Popular.

Since I haven't properly introduced myself yet - despite having lurked around this forum for some time - let me wish all you fine folks here a happy challenge and all the best!

Indeed he does.  That's why he was in retirement.  I've honestly had that clip for years.  Just can't put him out to pasture.

Addition to Day1

Had to swap out the water valve on our washer.  Needed to pry off those connectors without breaking them.  The Super Tinker came in clutch.  Bear in mind, this washer is only 3yrs old.  They don't make them like they used to.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 1

Here’s how I carry the required items for the MacGyver challenge every day.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The duct tape is wrapped around an old library card. The SAK is a Spartan. I use the paper clips as a money clip, etc.

No uses to report today.

Day 1
Picture of the pocket carry.  I have a larger amount of standard Duck tape in my edc bag, but for my pocket, just carrying about 24in of the 1in version.

Even though I had a lighter, I thought I’d use the my SAK w/Firefly for lighting my alcohol stove.  Made me think that this challenge is probably a good one to make a soda can alcohol stove using a SAK.

💥DAY 01💥

this challenge really snuck up on me!

figured I'd start this one off in true MacGyver fashion with this 84 mm tinker Small from 1985. You'll notice the larger ultra vintage MacGyver multitool is such an early model that it's actually starting to rust. there's no tang stamps so it's hard to pin down the exact year.

i've chosen biodegradable paper tape rolled up upon itself. I prefer this tape carry because its quite strong but  it can be torn easily. the adhesive is made of potato starch so it makes for a great fire starter that doesn't have a terrible smell.

We've got a good group here and I don't remember who said it but I think the saying goes...

With a little bit of imagination, anything is possible

Day 2

Today's carry.

Wrapped some re-used duct tape around a stick snapped off a RAT test cotton bud rod. And wrapped it around the silver paper clip on the key chain.

Day 2

Agent 4198 reporting.  Password toadstool.  Yellow protocol.  Loss of sealant integrity in the sleeping gas module resulted in a much needed rest yesterday.  I heard of it happening once before with an agent.  Unfortunately, his SAK had a laughing gas module leak.  Field agents had to strap him to a chair with duct tape and slap him with wet towels.
Nerve gas?  Only the 00 series agents get that stuff.  Like 007, right?  License to kill goes with 00.  The 01s get a license to maim, 02s get license to beat up, etc.  41 series agents like me only get a license to annoy.
Enough shop talk.  Time for another photo.

Some members are making the same mistake that I do about every second or third day of a challenge.  I keep having to go back and edit my posts because of it.  Be sure to number your posts.  Day 1, or Day One, or Day 1 of 30.  However you choose.
Serves two purposes.  First, it allows you to go back and check to see if you missed a post.  It happens.  Second, it allows the person who awards your badge to keep up with whether or not you have fulfilled your 30 days.  Best wishes. G

Day 2  (I didn't really need to number this post, but figured it set a good example.)

DAY 2

Watched MacGyver - Lost Treasure of Atlantis, with the wife on YouTube... innocent and good fun. We are not fans of horror or violence, so really appreciate discovery of this

The funny thing with watching that film, is that Brian Blessed was in the film, and having met him in person at a birthday party in my youth, resulted in me and the wife talking about that for a 1/3 of the film.

So in honour of the 1980's my offering is possibly the first SAK I owned, which was made in 1984, this has been my go to, for camping or public transport for decades

Minus about 6 missing SAKs....that have run away, here is the non multi tool SAK collection

And the trustee paper clip tucked into the corkscrew
