58 mm emergency blade
on: February 16, 2009, 11:55:45 AM
Does anyone know of any current sources of the thinner 58 mm SAK's (Classic, Rover) with the emergency blade instead of the spearpoint?

The MiniChamp is the only one I can think of :)

I don't think that there is a 58 that comes with just the spearpoint though :tu:

I have heard of them but I think they're uncommon at best.  Someone may know better.  If you do find any extra then let us know.  :tu:

Those are fairly hard to find. I did see about 10 of the emergency classics sell on eBay last year separately for about $15 each. You really have to keep an eye out for these and be ready to outbid Smartknives/Dennis.

OK, I just remembered a way to get an Emergency Blade classic cheaper than usual. There are advertising knives with "Pepcid" on them in 2 different colors. The white version has a regular blade but the "Teal" (pastel green?) version has an emergency blade instead. They are "Rover" models. No problem to just change out the scales for some other color to get rid of the advertisement scales. They sell fairly often on eBay, you just have to look over the photos carefully.

The knives I know of with the Emergency blade are the Rover, Classic, and the various mini-champs. I think the Rover is the easiest to find.

Well while looking I found this one the seller has 2

I don't believe I will get that particular one but someone else may want it

Of course I would probably email the seller and make sure that the pic is exactly like the one you would get otherwise it may have the spear point blade ;)

What's the purpose of the emergency blade when there's already a regular one?  ???

It comes much sharper than the regular blade, I've used it a few times to pick splinters and such.. Spork, how long ago did you buy that knife from Big Lots?

For some reason they are sharper more so than the spear point I guess because of the shape of the blade

Plus I seem drawn to it more   Don't know why but I like it better :D

I really dunno...might have come out of the incident where a doctor performed an emergency Tracheotomy on an airliner in flight.

Hmmm...maybe a year or two ago. I picked a few of them up as mod-fodder.

Another tool with the emergency blade only is the Rambler Plus.. It has emergency blade, cut and picker blade ( orange peeler  :D ). magnetic philips/bottle opener, and scissors. This looks to be my IDEAL 58MM!
