During the big windstorms last week, a large maple tree came down--mostly due to the rot inside. I have my Stihl 026 with 20" bar on part of the trunk for comparison.
Saturday was the day to cut it up and clear it out.
As you can see, it's almost as big in diameter as the the fence is tall.
Several hours into the process, the Stihl began running like crap. Thank God for the OHT. The locking cap lifter/pry bar worked perfectly to strip the engine covers and to remove the air filter for air filter maintenance and to get down to the spark plug.
Add to that, there were a few instances where honeysuckle and bitterroot vines entangled the trunk so that I couldn't drag large sections with the tractor. Using a chainsaw on viney stuff is a good way to get hurt, but thankfully, the saw blade on the OHT is hugely efficient and made short work of vines up to 1.5 inches in diameter.
The OHT has earned a spot on the the Farm EDC rotation.
And Thank God the horses were there to supervise the trunk removal process.
