Day 5:  Testing the cutters and wire stripper. Cutters are the best in the business and the stripper gets the job done.  Not as good as dedicated wire strippers, but they get the job done.

Thanks Juan!  Nice easy one this time.  I always forgot to try the Leatherman wire strippers until last months Bond Challenge.  I got some old wire and tried it out and discovered they work pretty well!

Excellent challenge. I like the signal as well, but haven't acquired one. Can't decide between it or the Skeletool (looks like a mini signal). Surge has everything I really need, I only want them, not needing them.

Day 6: Out playing with the saw today!  It's a good saw.  I can remember a time out on the Appalachian Trail when I would have been thrilled to have it with me, on an overnight with only a Minichamp.  I was mighty happy my son had his Vic Hiker with him  :D

A wood saw of any kind would definitely be handy out hiking or camping :salute: especially if you only have a MiniChamp otherwise :o :ahhh :D

I tried the ultra light hike on that overnight trek.  It works buddy, but only if you remember to pack a wood cutting tool  .  With the Signal or really any other saw-equipped mt, you get both in one handy package. Plus, you have a striker built into this tool.  I have a bigger striker but this is definitely handy.  Lesson learned   :tu:

That's what the AT is about.  Test yourself.  Test what works and what doesn't.  Testing is the best way to learn.  Best wishes.  G

Day 7: with a bit kit, the Signal becomes almost like a Center Drive!   I tied a piece of Paracord inner through the bit hole to keep the bits from falling out.  I wish I could take credit for the idea but I saw it online.  It works!

I tied a piece of Paracord inner through the bit hole to keep the bits from falling out.  I wish I could take credit for the idea but I saw it online.  It works!

Bits falling out frustrated me too, but it is convenient having the ability to use a proper hex sized bits. The string is a fantastic idea, better than trying to force a small magnet in there.

How are you enjoying the Signal so far?

Pete

Thanks Pete!  I'm liking it a lot.  It's just enough tool for what I normally do.  I use the knife on my multi tools more than any other implement so I like how handy it is on the Signal.  It's a good tool.  Having that bit drive is a hidden treasure.
