Powernoodle Day 4

I shortened the shoe strings on some On Cloud trainers as you lads over there would say.  I sealed the ends with a lighter.  The ARC cut them easily.  The P4 could not cut them at all - the strings kept binding up.  Each scissor seemed the same in terms of blade sharpness and pivot looseness.  Maybe it was user error.

 :dunno:

PN, you know, I don’t think I have ever used the scissors on the P4 or the Arc. I will have to make it a point to give it a try.

Dropping in for a quick post.

Building my first Meccano model in almost 40 years with the Leatherman P2 to help out.

Glad you dropped in for a quick post Crunchie. I built one of those a while back with my youngest son. He got it as a Christmas gift.

Powernoodle Day 3

(Image removed from quote.)
Mrs. Powernoodle and I are in the process of moving our residence, which means that I am deconstructing a ton of cardboard boxes.  I EDC a box cutter, and always use it on cardboard because there nothing better than a new utility blade for killing a box.  In comparison, and as one would expect, the ARC was fairly lame as a cardboard slicer.  The ARC's saber grind (with an unground portion near the spine) with DLC coating is grabby on cardboard, and doesn't want to slide through like a full flat grind.  But the ARC's  grind is also a little stronger than a full flat grind, and is more aimed at being a general-use blade than a slicer.  I am constantly reminded that MTs are almost never the best at a specific task, but excel at convenience.

(Image removed from quote.)

Good luck powernoodle, I am moving again soon as well.

Bonus pic for today. An unfamiliar white substance has made its appearance here in Puget Sound over night for the first time this winter season. Neighbor kids across the street are very excited and built a miniature snowman. Possibly more snow to come over the next week. Then rain.

Nice pic with matching background!

I would slide the lace all the way to one side so that I only need to cut one of those.

That would result in one end having an aglet and the other not.  This would fracture the symmetry of the universe.   :ahhh  :tu:

Powernoodle Day 5

After much contemplation, I have determined that the ARC's file is better than the P4's file.

That P4/P2 file is awful!  It's even worse that a flat-head awl.

Yeah I don't use a file often, but when you need it, you want it to be effective.  Leatherman's full-size files are good.

Everyone has different needs, but I would prefer a saw over a file if I had to choose one.  The Curl, for example, would be muchly improved (for me) with a saw instead of a file.  But Leatherman has its reasons for the file, whether its customer preference or cost of production.  I frequently use an MT or SAK saw for little things like cutting back a hydrangea or a small branch.  Not so much with the file.

Day 5

With the talk about the file today, I decided to give the Arc file a try this afternoon.I picked up a used SOG Powerassist and on close inspection the very end of the plier tip had snapped off. My guess is the prior owner used it to pry on something. So I tried the crosscut side of the file and it would not bite. So I gave the diamond side a go and it worked. It was slow going, but I got the tips to match up and reprofiled the tip to look symmetrical. I realize now, I should have taken a before and after pick. Later tonight I will get out some sandpaper and work though the grades to make it look better. For now I am happy how it turned out.

I love a good file and must be why LM includes it instead of a saw  :D

Powernoodle Day 7

Its not a fair comparo of course, but the P4 gets about 8 teeth on the fastener, and the Knipex pliers wrench 150 gets two flats.

Here's the bite you get with a Skeletool.  On this fastener, it was 4 teeth plus some torque from the cutters.  When the corners of the bolt drop in between the teeth, you get a little more grip than when the teeth are just sitting on the bolt surface.  Of course, the most grip is probably found with a socket or box end wrench, but that's cheating.

One more from the Powernoodle Archives.

Edit:  I recall this one as having pretty good grip.
