Hello from PA
on: February 10, 2026, 09:42:06 AM
Hi all,

I recently got back into MTs and particularly SAK.

I had a simple victoronix as a kid (can't remember which one now) but just carried a pocket knife for years as an adult.

I realized I've gotten tired of trying to find a tool when I need it and just swapped out the pocket knife for a leatherman rebar recently.

Some of the things I get into around the house or elsewhere that may be a good job for a multitool (but haven't really tried):
- laptop mods / repair
- watches (no MT I'm aware of for this world but I'd surely like to find out from anyone here)
- audio - built amps and headphone repair
- general fix it stuff, door hinges, loose screws, etc...
- firearm maintenance (only have a few)

I'm also super keen on getting back into the Swiss army knife world.

Welcome aboard, anywhere between Philly up to Wilkes-Barre? I pretty much did the same, started off with a Swiss army, then switched to a multitool, but now switched back to just a Swiss army,,

And will presumably switch back to a real multitool one day or another…  :D

Welcome aboard messiaxh21 ! Sorry for the friendly banter above, don't mean to pollute your thread.
I can't help you with firearms (though I imagine you know of the MUT ?) but for watches I know there are Watch case opener SAKs.

No, if I started needing pliers again I’d still carry the sak but add a small pair of pliers rather then switching back to a multitool that I could break, heck I have a bunch of mini tools, heck even mini pipe wrenches, but I’d get a new mini pair of piers..

I did see the MUT - seems like it's not made anymore though and going out of stock. I have some dedicated tools for the cleaning but it would be interesting to see how useful a multitool like that would be.

Do you happen to know offhand which swiss armys can do watch case opening?

Welcome aboard! Both Victorinox and Wenger produced tools used to remove pressure-fit case backs. You may also be able to get a mini screwdriver that fits the tiny Phillips screws. Unfortunately, removal of a screw back case will require a dedicated tool.
