Abu Garcia multitool
on: March 07, 2025, 01:46:59 PM
I found this charming tool, and since it wasn't too expensive, I went for it.

It has a Abu Garcia sticker, so it's probably ment for fishing, I suppose? :dunno: The types of tools on it suggest the same. The pliers especially seem to be made for the fishing crowd in mind.

It is rather huge, which doesn't fully appear from the pictures. See the ruler on one side of the saw to get an idea.

I have searched around and can't find a similar one anywhere. It was advertised as "20-in-1 multi-purpose tool".

Does anyone know if it?

I have bought things for lesser reasons than you gave.  I did notice the broadhead wrench on the tool.  Chako probably has one, or something similar.  Best wishes.  G

Yes, what is that thing? A kind of wrench, you say, Gary?

Arrow points screw in and out of a ferrule on the shaft.  It is hard to remove or tighten them by hand since they are so sharp.  That sort of wrench will work for two blade, three blade, or four blade broadheads.  Best wishes.  G

I've never heard of that particular tool, but there are at least a couple-few other multis made with anglers in mind. Hopefully you'll glean a little more information on it.

Yeah, those are some good photos.  I looked at them early this morning and forgot to say anything.  Best wishes.  G

The blade is rather strange. The serrations are quite aggressive and takes up most of the bevel. Perhaps for scaling and line cutting?  :dunno: Is a design like that preferred for anglers since you mostly only need the tip of the blade for skinning?

Your classic "fish knife" has a long clip blade and a scaler much like that on an SAK (and the blade or scaler usually incorporates a cap lifter). I'd definitely prefer a clip blade over the one on the Abu Garcia multi. The rest of its features look pretty useful, though.

I think I would use the back side of the saw/file blade for scaling.  Not the toothy side.  Some fish like catfish get skinned, but something like trout are just lightly gone over for scales and cooked with the skin on.  I think friend Farmer likes partially serrated blades about as much as I do.  I would imagine Denmark has fresh and salt water fishing along with commercial fishing?  Best wishes.  G
