Micro first aid kit

I wasn't sure where to put this, so I guess survival is as good a place as any.

In my briefcase I carry a small first aid kit.
When not using my briefcase, this fits into my shoulder bag, which is quite small.
The kit is in a hard plastic container comprising of;
Several Band aids
2 pairs of latex gloves
A small container of antiseptic cream
Several cotton buds
Several disposable splinter diggers.
1 small ice bag
2 small bandages
Small sealable plastic bag
several ibuprofen tablets
Several diarrhea tablets
Several antacid tablets
several antihistamine tablets.

These all fit into a small container 120x80x 40 mm in size (except for the bandage and ice pack).
In the past I have carried a small Victorinox knife to supplement this kit, for cutting and the tweezers.
I can replace the tweezers with some I have found which are small and would fit.
But for cutting, a knife cannot be replaced.
But we aren't allowed to carry a knife in Australia.

I need a suggestion with something I could replace a sharp knife with that is functional.
I have tried a scalpel blade, but its too fiddly and far from practical.
Any suggestions?

And if anyone has a "Very" portable personal first aid kit, what do you carry.?

In each of my cars I have a far more practical kit, of decent size and capability.
In my home I have a trauma kit.
In my caravan I also have a trauma kit.
So in most cases the more trauma oriented components are not required.

I am also trained in first aid, advanced resuscitation, oxygen and amputation/ crush injury as part of my Rescue organization training.

   Nice report.  I carry a small commercial kit in my belt pack.  With a few extras.  I have a small pair of surgical type scissors that are handy for cutting tape or bandages or clothing.  Easier to use one handed than a knife.  Some people carry a snake bite kit in the woods, but I never have.  The old fashioned cut and suck is out of fashion now anyway.  Now it is more like ice pack and transport.  Cell phones make it easier to get transported than in the old days.  Best wishes.  G

Here's the "Boo-Boo" kit I've carried for the last several years. It's contained in a small plastic box that the original kit came in; I've modified it to meet my needs. It has:

-Several different sized Band-Aids
-2 X large patch style Band-Aids (great for knees)
-2 X 2x2 gauze pads - mostly for wound cleaning
-3 X packets of antibiotic cream
-1 X hand sanitizing wipe (I have a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my bag)
-2 X Sting Relief pads
-2 X BZK wound wipes
-4 X Pepto Bismol tablets
-Small packet with pain relievers, anti-diarrhea meds and antihistamine pills

I started carrying this daily when we were caring for our "bonus" granddaughter and it's proven too useful to get rid of.

Nice, CF.  I will say that I am wary of carrying a small baggie with pills in it.  I try not to carry any tablets unless they are in their original packaging.  Always a possibility of taking the wrong thing by mistake or maybe trouble at something like a traffic stop and shakedown.  That's probably just me.

In addition to the normal wound treats, pain killers and antihistamine I've added three things over the years:

• Burn gel. Apart from band aids my most used item.
• 2 aspirin. Can be helpful in case of stroke or heart attack. Can also make it worse in some cases. (Don't take medical advice from me!)
• Tourniquets. If a bleeding is bad enough not much else will do. One in the workshop, one in the car.

mylar blankets are useful to have - quick heat insulator or rain protection (if you don't have an umbrella/poncho handy)

My boo boo kit is geared towards cleaning and treating minor wounds, cuts, blisters, etc, to be able to continue moving on to get better care. So band aids, gauze, tape, wound dressing pads, q-tips, eyewash (in the tin along with some strong painkillers), elastic band for sprains, antiseptic cream, tweezers and lasso (for ticks), lighter, scissors, mirror, and one large bandage. It's pretty big, because I got accustomed to carrying stuff for five people. Even one major cut and you burn through your supply very quickly. I don't bother to carry band aids on me, because at home, at work and in my car I have larger kits and cabinets full of supplies. The Osprey pouch travels [looks like I left this sentence hanging] in my backpack when I (used to) go hiking and when I travel with family.

Because my hobbies and activities involve or have involved edged tools and even firearms (long time reservist) I went a bit overboard with my other kits. Tourniquets, Israeli and OLAES bandages, hemostatics, chest seals, SAM splints, CPR masks (although blowing air is now considered unnecessary), nitrile gloves, LM Raptors, electrolytes, nose hose, mylar blankets... you get the picture. To some degree I know what to do, took the courses (and combat medic in the 80s), and in case of a major event I have stuff to go around if someone knows better.

That's a valid concern.

So far, my pocketable first-aid kit consists solely of my rescue inhaler. As accident-prone as I can be, you'd think I'd have enough sense to at least carry a couple-few bandages.
