DAY 5

Received a new toy yesterday, a tramontina bolo machete. Thinking about garden clearance, as there are loads of elder trees....

Looks great Reamer.  Do we need to decide on a color now?  Best wishes.  G

Day 5

Put some bread in the toaster and turned on the computer.  Got the familiar 507 Insufficient Storage page instead of the MTo site.  Figured I had better post something fast before things went down again.
I want to thank friend Reamer Punch for furnishing us with a nice looking badge.
Staggered through the house at about 3:30AM and almost stepped on either a mouse or a huge spider.  Could have been either.  Maybe both.  Might have been a freak hybrid of the two?  A spouse.  Or is it a mider?  I will see if the abomination will come to a trap tonight.
How about a big knife photo?
Best wishes.  G

Carrying my ZT0452TIBLU today. I really like how solid this knife feels.

Sorry for the crappy pics today. I had issues with the forum this morning. I keep getting a 507 error message.

I made a small one that matches the big one. Or you could go with the cleaver.

I saw the full sized one and the award badge size were slightly different.  I thought it was because of size constraints.  I like the one that matches the big one best, I think.  Nice job.  Best wishes.  G

Day 5

Sabacc opened the Switch 2! One thing that's nice about big knives like this is that the nail nick is mostly cosmetic. Easy to pinch and grab anywhere on the big blade your heart desires.

Our first machete of the challenge, a weird mouse-spider hybrid, perhaps my favorite version of the excellent ZT0452, a new Nintendo Switch 2, and it appears we are converging on a badge choice.

It’s been an exciting Day 5 so far!

Day 5

The Fox Knives Bravado is an impressive knife.  The N690Co blade is cleanly over 4” long, and manages to be wide but still pointy, with a slight recurve and dual thumb studs.  The scalloped Ti handles are definitely in the running for coolest handles of any knife in my collection.

Other than price, the only real downside in my view is that it tips the scales at 6.6 oz.

Day 6

Looks like Caitlin Clark has come to the conclusion that I am not interested.  That's a little disheartening.  I was musing about buying her a really gorgeous engagement ring.  The three of us would have gone to an exclusive jewelry store and picked it out.  Three?  Caitlin, me, and her credit card.
How about an old catalog ad for Case 6265.  Year?  1989.  Fifty bucks is retail.  Back then you could actually buy a CASE without using a basketball girl's credit card.  Dealer would have been about $30, with a discount if you bought more than one.  This one has the lanyard hole.  Best wishes.  G

Neat catalog, would love to see more of it.

Day 6

I knew we had a banquet scheduled at work today, and I knew they'd give us crappy little plastic knives, so I packed my Victorinox Picnic Knife. 4.25" of serrated stainless steel made short work of the chicken, so short I forgot to get an action shot. Nice little knife, liner lock, plastic handle, pretty light. Not heavy duty, but does the job in situations like this.

DAY 6

Possibly the best general purpose kitchen knife, the Fallkniven K2 Santoku, also was known as the White Whale.

There is only one kitchen knife that beats this, and I'll share that on Sunday

Day 6

Went with yet another ZT today. Today’s carry is a 0452TI. Blade steel is the standard 0452 S35VN. I really don’t know why they didn’t make this version a standard production version. They then could have followed it up with a black wash version and an all Black one.

Just a pick of the show side today. The lock side looks just like the standard 0452CF.

Day 5

Sabacc opened the Switch 2! One thing that's nice about big knives like this is that the nail nick is mostly cosmetic. Easy to pinch and grab anywhere on the big blade your heart desires.

Been thinking about the Switch these days, and I assume that as the Switch 2 takes over, many stores will be having good deals on the old one and Switch Lite. While it's not pocket-friendly, at least it's portable and I can buy games from Walmart or even the online store, as opposed to scouring eBay and collectibles stores for decent games not priced stupidly.

I had a 2DS for about a month when Walmart had it in a Mario Kart bundle for about $60 or so.  What killed it--tried to carry it in my back pocket and it broke. Should've got a case to carry it instead.

Speaking of that:

Day 5: New charger (I lost the original somewhere around the house), new stylus (probably will need to consider a new battery sometime soon) for a 15 year old DSi. I finally found after quite a few years of being misplaced. Used my old GBA SP more, but it's got a problem of turning on, but displaying a garbled mess n the screen.

I should've gotten a USB cord to use with my existing wall chargers. This copy of the OEM Nintendo charger feels really cheap, and while the Nintendo version had a mechanism to help hold the folding plug open, the copy doesn't have it.

Need to find the rest of my old games. They got literally everywhere over the years. Most of the better-known Mario titles got pricey, and even some things like the Atari and Pac-Man/Namco arcade titles are often not that cheap anymore. While $15-20 isn't what I'd call stupid expensive for a secondhand game, it still seems higher than Gamestop prices in the 2010s when I had this one.  I am checking an area comic book shop that sells old games.

I have Scribblenauts in it, a couple of the Game and Watch titles, plus a couple other random titles I had downloaded off the store. But, none I actually liked....

Great world, y'awl! :2tu: Sadly, there isn't a 65-pattern Case in my near future. They have gotten spendy! Shepherd Hills only has one CS model that sells for under $100.

Been meaning on getting a newer one to replace my '76 as it's got sentimental value. Used to be, there was an orange Delrin one-blade version for like $60, but Case discontinued it--and even then, I seem to recall the 6265s being around $80 or so (they even had a cheap CS?CV Delrin two-blade too--about $70-80 and Tractor Supply even sold them for that). Now,they are mostly premium handles and pricey.

However, Shepherd Hills does have an exclusive in stainless/black Delrin for $80.

I would honestly recommend a good secondhand one (personally, I like Schrades a little better...) or even a Rough Ryder. I've got a Classic Carbon version around here somewhere, and it's pretty nice. I've even put a Nite Ize Hip Clip on it so I can keep it handy without a belt pouch.

I just noticed that the Delrin Trapper is $1.50 more expensive @ MSRP if you opted for Delrin back then, and Bone Stag was cheaper. Now, 6.5 seems like a pretty hefty upcharge over Delrin.

I've had another observation--when you see older Case knives for sale (except for patterns only offered in Delrin--i.e. Sodbuster), you rarely see that many synthetic handles compared to bone prior to knives made in the late '80s onward--though Case has probably been offering some synthetic material in one form or another for a century or more.

Breaking a 2DS is an accomplishment. That whole line is practically indestructible, and probably my favorite Nintendo niche.

Day 7

First some old business.  The specifications listed for the knives on the old catalog pages I posted are wonky.  I doubt if any CASE on that page besides the Camper had Delrin handles.  (I always heard Camillus made those.  I don't know.)  The confused person who wrote the copy for the catalog called a lot of things Delstag that were jigged bone.  The 6265 was likely the wood laminate.  I don't really know exactly what they made Sodbuster handles from.
I did finally catch the mouse that was making my life miserable.  Looks like I won't have to burn the house down after all.  These old farmhouses are drafty, creaky, and have mice sometimes.  The huge spider mystery is unsolved.  Maybe it was just the mouse.  How about a photo.  Best wishes.  G

DAY 7

Still processing the loss of my mum, and all the assorted paperwork and stuff clearance will be starting....found this knife my mum bought me in 1995 from France so a picture of the falcon knife, with a Vic kitchen knife for scale.

The falcon will now be dismantled and binned...the same for all the kitchen knives and other unwanted sharps

Day 7

Today I grabbed the ZT0452WBW from the knife drawer. The blade steel on this one is S35VN. The carbon fiber scale on the show side has a white weave to it. The blade and lock side have the black wash finish. Overall, I like the aesthetic of the knife. The black wash finish and white weave Carbon fiber tie in nicely together
