DAY 12

Have been really busy the last week, so some catching up to do over today and tomorrow....

I mentioned that there was a very special knife, our wedding cake knife, the Fallkniven Erna (SK18), it is no standard wedding cake knife, it has laminated Cobalt Steel (Cos Steel), and holds an edge apex that could cut a god

It was marketed as a BBQ knife, but our use and idea was sooooo much better, it comes out at every birthday to cut cake.

Catch up

DAY 13

The Fallkniven bushcraft blade family

From left to right, F1, H1, TK2 and the A1

In feather sticking, the F1 and A1 are the best, but the A1 is surprisingly good, and could easily be a one bladed option for a camping or bugout bag.

Catch up

DAY 14

Ahead of the weekend, I wanted to see which is the better feather sticking blade.... bring on the trials.....

Using split pine for the challenge, and a mixture of blades, left to right, Mark Jacobs clone of Alan Wood Bushcrafter in O1, F1 VG10, H1 in VG10, TK2 in 3G, A1 in VG10 Helle temagami in 12C27, and an Auti in mystery stainless steel?

1st place Mark Jacobs, 2nd Helle temagami, 3rd A1

The Mark Jacobs is the clear winner, Alan Wood is an amazing knife designer and the Mark Jacobs clone is a brilliant nod to him.

Day 15

Happy Father's Day! The Resilience opened up this Rebar so I could oil it, etc. before I gifted it to a friend as a house warming gift. May his cabinet handles never be loose.

Great pic Mr. Robert’s Sir! My first Spyderco was a Tenacious. I have a fondness for the design. It was a G-10 version. I etched the blade, liners, and clip in ferric acid then stonewashed those parts. Once everything was back together, I resharpened the blade. I gifted that knife to a neighbor on his birthday. He still carries that knife. I hope your friend gets a lot of good use from the Rebar. Awesome gift.

Day 15

This is the KA-BAR BK19 Becker Nessmuk.  I got a good deal on it, but it just hasn’t made its way into carry or use.

I suspect that this knife at 0.165” thick, like many modern “Nessmuk” knives, would be too thick and heavy for the man himself, who preferred a fixed blade that was “thin in the blade, and handy for skinning, cutting meat, or eating with.”

DAY 16

Another day, another feather stick...or ten...

Condor Wayfarer today, not a huge fan of 1095, rusts to easily for my liking...but easy to make,  cheap (ish), and works

The Knife Research Rasul, only 600 made, and makes Carothers knives look like toys....that was the  knife that started the trend of cutting through metal bolts, with no edge damage.

It's Vanadis 23 steel, hardened to 64 Rockwell, holds an edge forever and the apex can feather a single hair.... I'll show it tomorrow  :woohoo:

I'm planning on doing the Nessmuck Trio next month for the Anniversary Challenge, and having a lousy time finding a proper Nessmuk, as opposed to a combat knife with a little hump on it.

Day 16

Speaking of knives ol' George would hate, here's a RAMBO KNIFE my dad got for himself when the movies were still new. The water in the compass has all leaked/evaporated, but it did still have fishhooks, matches, etc. in the handle. Blade was around 5", which fits for the challenge, but is surprisingly reasonable for the style.

I haven't seen a Rambo knife in a while.  My pal Lee sunk $100 back about 1980 maybe on a Brewer.  Sort of the same idea, only bigger.  Fish hooks in the handle, etc.  I doubt he ever carried it.
If I wanted to get a Nessmuk knife, I think I would buy a sheep skinner and grind the top of the blade down to get a point like old Sears' knife.  Thin blade.  Nice and slicey.  Won't cost much.  Best wishes.  G

Day 16

Today’s big blade is my titanium Military that I swapped the S30V blade with a CTS-204P blade from the Knife Works sprint. The ST300 I am carrying is a handle swap from a ST300M. While I had it apart I threw in a Suge bit adapter.

Day 11: Been a bit busy going through my closet for a Goodwill trip, as well as rerranging furniture. Thus, I fell a little behind.

In the last major reset, I had to place my TV in the corner of my bedroom as I put the bed towards the back. It is somewhat annoying due  the way my bedroom is laid out--used to be a bedroom and an adjoining guest bedroom, but the bathroom got expanded twenty years ago--taking out a third of my old bedroom in the process. Thus, the wall between those two bedrooms was removed to make up for the space, making one large bedroom. I only have like three feet of wall on each side (in the wall that used to separate the rooms) to place a TV (I did try mounting it once--and it didn't go well), and thus I needed a narrow piece of furniture that could fit the TV, Dish box (which I rarely actually use--thus it was mounted on the wall), Google TV/Chromecast box (previously, a Roku Express--double-stick taped to the base of the TV ), and now a DVD player. Previously, I only had a narrow "toilet paper" cabinet designed for (and previously used) going between two sinks in a bathroom. Way too narrow, and barely fit my TV. Couldn't put a DVD player on it either.

Walmart had a small bookcase that was only two feet wide, so I decided to get that.

I've been carrying the Cold Steel Voyager L these past few days. It replaced an older second-gen Japanese-made version with the tanto blade. It's honestly much better in the hand, despite being a bit bulky. Quality is great.

Only major complaint I've ever had--they're very stiff out of the box. I finally broke in the lock bar leaf spring by leaving it half-open on the dresser for a week.

I had to cut open a lot of parts bags.

I've been slowly buying older TV series I like on DVD, and ditching streaming services. It seems once Disney started putting Simpsons on streaming, they stopped printing the DVDs. Meanwhile, Spongebob DVDs are common, and inexpensive. Walmart has a 500 episode set for like $50--I just got 1-4 as it was like $15 for the 1-2 and 3-4 sets off Walmart online. South Park is next.  I also got The Day The Earth Blew Up, a Looney Tunes film WBD canned, but later sold to someone who wanted to actually release it, instead of erase it for tax writeoffs. I hear Ketchup Entertainment is slated to do the same for the movie about Will E. Coyote suing Acme.

PS: don't buy WM's store brand DVD player. Has to be the worst one I've ever had. Only got this one as I couldn't find my Memorex from 20 years ago.  I didn't realize they had a Sony on sale for like $5 more, and would've gone with that one instead. It's only temporary until I can get a Bluray player.

Day 16

ESEE-4 in S35VN and orange G-10

I took the handle slabs off at one point, as I thought the knife might be just as good without them but a bit lighter.  Turns out that the sheath does not retain the knife sans slabs; it falls right out.  Minor disappointment.

Weird Esee didn't design that to hold the knife without having handles on--much as they already do for smaller models like the Candiru and Izula.

Keep meaning on trying a Candiru for pocket carry. I bought the scales (bright orange) for a Candiru by mistake with an Izula at my local knife store, but never returned the scales--mainly as the Candiru looked promising for pocket carry, and I knew the scales would make it much more comfortable.

Bark River version looks nice.  0.094” seems closer to the mark for thickness as well.  Not cheap, but you get what you pay for…

The action on mine was pretty decent right out of the package.  Maybe I just got lucky.

Eh, like I said, minor disappointment as far as I’m concerned.  I did discover that the ESEE-4 is one completely solid piece of steel save for the bolt holes.  There are no other cutouts or reductions in thickness whatsoever.

The Candiru is a gem of the small fixed blade, look at my profile picture! The one I currently have is an older Randall stamped one, and the edge has been convexed, cuts soooo much better.

I have the izula, but the Candiru gets the pocket time.

Yeah, price and availability both aren't helping. We're hitting some cutlery stores later this month as part of a road trip, so maybe something will turn up. Awlso debating the Kabar Mk1. It's definitely not a Nessmuk, but I feel like it's so overshadowed by the Mk2 that it deserves a chance.

It's gonna be a fun one, I've seen a couple other people planning interesting challenges. I'd love to have another Nessmuker, but go with what looks interesting to you.
