Day 6
Speaking of Opi DIY. I tried the simulated leather loop from my new Colorama in the wee lanyard hole of the DIY. Works fine. Probably would be satisfactory for about a week before breaking. It has rained every day this week, and the Colorama locked up pretty solidly. I dragged the blade open and forced some beeswax lip balm into the slot. Works some better now. I have used the same goop on another No. 8 beech for a year. The plastic DIY opens like a dream with no lube regardless of the weather. Any other company besides stodgy tradition-bound Opinel would have offered a line of synthetic handle knives. Wouldn't need to discontinue the woodies, just offer a few all-weather alternatives. Put a hole in the handle while you are at it big enough for a piece of paracord. Best wishes. G
I am so sorry guys! I completely forgot about this. With my shoulder surgery and stuff I totally forgot this was going on for September. Doing this challenge would have been hard and very interesting with one arm. My dominant hand has gotten weak and using it now results in pain. I'll keep working on my exercises in hope for the next challenge.
On Day 4 I did receive an better SAK Clone than the Cheapos from Aldi and Tchibo I had : Böker Plus Techtool City 4: quite nice looking Micarta Scales, an non locking but quite Charp Blade, a small Serated Blade which might be usefull for Package Straps, an Skizzor which allready works better than the big from the Swizza, an Plier I did Not Test yet , but I doubt it’s better than the Plier of an Victorinox, but might some times get usefull to grip stuff, an Saw which feels the same as an Victorinox Saw, and an Bottle Opener which should just work..On the Backside an Korkscrew and an Riemer, No Twizzers, but an Glassbreaker, and an Pocket ClipLooks nice, feels like quality, and it’s just as thick as my Vic Delemont S 52 Will post my next uses, but today I did not use any Pocket Knife
Used the Boker saw blade to cut down a 1-1.5in stick into pieces that would fit in my smaller twig stove. No scientific tests done, but I would say it worked as well as the SAK saw.
