Day 6

Pocket carry on day 6 will continue to be the crossout Camillus.    I tested the edge and found it would not even cut paper 😱. That has been remedied 😉

And, found these SAK-a-like samples lying on my ‘puter desk.    (Had to use my BOND to extract most tools other than the blades.

The larger is a single layer, smaller a 3 layer.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I would guess I left a dozen or more of these samples when I departed that office location, these two were likely art of mail I brought home to home office during traveling days.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 6: immediately below the screwdriver in the picture, appears to be the lanyard ring hole.  Has anyone else noticed this?

That one looks a lot easier to use Gary.  This one doesn't seem to move.  It reminds me of the lanyard hole on the No. 9 DIY :dunno:

Swiza didn't show a lanyard loop in its older catalogs.  The newest inventory photos show a loop on many of the models.  I don't know if they are fixed or fold out.  I am not a huge fan of key ring/ lanyard loops, but think a fold out/slide out type is a good idea.
Can you thread a loop of some sort through the 'notch' below the screwdriver?  Does it go all the way through?

Speaking of Opi DIY.  I tried the simulated leather loop from my new Colorama in the wee lanyard hole of the DIY.  Works fine.  Probably would be satisfactory for about a week before breaking.  It has rained every day this week, and the Colorama locked up pretty solidly.  I dragged the blade open and forced some beeswax lip balm into the slot.  Works some better now.  I have used the same goop on another No. 8 beech for a year.  The plastic DIY opens like a dream with no lube regardless of the weather.
Any other company besides stodgy tradition-bound Opinel would have offered a line of synthetic handle knives.  Wouldn't need to discontinue the woodies, just offer a few all-weather alternatives.  Put a hole in the handle while you are at it big enough for a piece of paracord.  Best wishes.  G

On Day 4 I did receive an better SAK Clone than the Cheapos from Aldi and Tchibo I had :
Böker Plus Techtool City 4: quite nice looking Micarta Scales, an non locking but quite Charp Blade, a small Serated Blade which might be usefull for Package Straps, an Skizzor which allready works better than the big from the Swizza, an Plier I did Not Test yet , but I doubt it’s better than the Plier of an Victorinox, but might some times get usefull to grip stuff, an Saw which feels the same as an Victorinox Saw, and an Bottle Opener which should just work..
On the Backside an Korkscrew and an Riemer,
No Twizzers, but an Glassbreaker, and an Pocket Clip

I am so sorry guys!  I completely forgot about this. With my shoulder surgery and stuff I totally forgot this was going on for September. Doing this challenge would have been hard and very interesting with one arm. My dominant hand has gotten weak and using it now results in pain.  :-\ I'll keep working on my exercises in hope for the next challenge.

Day 6
Using the awl to break up some ice.
Note this isn't a hardened block of ice that needed broken, its just clumping and in need of lite persuasion.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.

Day 6
Used the Boker saw blade to cut down a 1-1.5in stick into pieces that would fit in my smaller twig stove.  No scientific tests done, but I would say it worked as well as the SAK saw.

Day 5: Crater C33T. In terms of my "not SAK" multifunction knives, it's my favorite. Fairly light, and basically just blade and drivers.

My old corded Black and Decker Cut Saw was showing its age and was in poor condition (as it had been a beater for years before I inherited it), and I needed a heavy duty replacement.

I had a few cordless reciprocating saws, but most were low-mid end and never impressed me.  I decided to try a real Sawzall--a late '90s Milwaukee 6537-22 10A model.  They go used for around the cost of a cheap Harbor Freight POS--so around $50.  Also, this one came with a massive stack of blades in varying conditions (mostly slightly used or new, however)--almost all Lenox or Milwaukee--which aren't cheap.

Much less vibration than any of my others (20V Craftsman brushed, 18V DeWalt running on a 20V battery with the official adapter, and the B&D), much more power, and easily changed blades. Also the most comfortable to use.

I am still thinking about going with M18, even though I bought 20V DeWalt batteries to use with the old tools, and am slowly expanding with new 20V tools.

Day 6: Two mail-calls.

The Lledo RNLB Garside (Tyne-class Lifeboat) is tough to find in the States, though a few were brought back as tourist trinkets. I paid $2 shipped for this one off eBay from an eBay seller in CO.

I think Garside was the debut. It was produced for Kimberly-Clark (who if I recall, paid for the boat to be built) on behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The box still has a RNLI price tag of GBP 2.50. Over 2-3 years, Lledo did most of the Tyne-class--most of the time, with an ad for the sponsor of the boat on the plinth.

And another package showed up unexpectedly. Long story short, we've had a ton of problems with UPS lately. A neighbor of mine called on his way out from my place, saying he found a package with my name on it--a quarter-mile from my place on an old farm near no address whatsoever. We suspect the owners (my estranged Dad and his second wife I might add) of that property (who without our permission, blocked the driveway on our property with a gate) complained because the UPS guy recently started going through that gate to leave packages on my porch. I've tried to get someone at UPS to get to the bottom of this issue, but so far, nothing's worked.

That package contained some tools I ordered from Caterpillar--drop-shipped through our local dealer. No shipping notification or phone call and I actually checked my CAT account this morning--and it was still saying "processing"--makes me wonder if UPS picked it up on the way out--they're on the same road as the CAT dealer.

Most are rebranded Snap-On, though it appeaers the 213-1983 (6-inch) are actually rebranded Channellock (with exclusive black grips).

No worries, your health is more important.  Gotta make sure you're in good fighting form first.
