Day 10

While the edge of the T2’s awl is sharp, the point is inexplicably not.  It looks to me like it is flat on purpose.

I just don’t understand the logic.

Decide to make a KBMT with only four tools ->  :tu:

Decide one of those tools should be an awl ->  :tu:

Decide the awl shouldn’t have a sharp point ->

My Camillus Crossout as a very similar awl or as I have seen them callout as Punch tools as well.

I think my Ruff Rida is falling apart.  I took a photo of the outrageously pointy awl in the pocky nife and noticed that the shackle had FALLEN OFF!  Completely gone.  Pivot pin and all.  I hope I don't step on it.
It's a shame it "fell apart".  Guess they don't make them like they used to. ;)

Aujourd'hui, mon couteau est français.   :hatsoff:
That's a nice looking Pradel!   :tu:

It's pumpkin season in the stores!
Already bought the wife her pumpkin spice coffee.  :D

Official it’s day 10 of the Challenge, I think i made 4 accurate posts now, even though I did bought me even an Alternative Multi Functional Knife for the Challenge I find myself lots of evenings in bed whitouth making any pictures.. so might be I will not pass the challenge just because I can’t find the time to work on it..

Even though I will not get the batch then, at least it was a reason for me to buy me this Böker Techtool which is actually a quite nice piece of equipment..
I will definitely post pictures, but might be I’m allready out of competition..

(Also I’m allready did use the,Nail Cleaner on my Minichamp, and the Paket Opener Edge on my Swisstool Spirit..
No worries at all matzesu.  If you can catch up, great!  If not, no worries.  We do this for the fun of it just to see what we can accomplish.  Cheers!

Day 10

My buddy Ivan sent me this really cool Mikov Stovka.  Many thanks again Ivan!

The blade just needed a quick touch-up and it made quick work of package opening.  The corkscrew can in handy for improving the draw on the cigar.

The chisel point style awl does make a hole.

Day 10:

ISC Discovery (Adler for Schrade, I think). I bought this one from a member here for the inaugural SAK-Alike/Off-Brand challenge I did here. Quality is decent--to the point it's them or Mikov in terms of non-Swiss "SAK-alikes" that I personally like.

I carried it alongside a Cattleman's Cutlery Cowhand Medium Stockman I picked up earlier today at a local farm and feed.  They were a Case dealer for many years, then phased that out for the Chinese Old Timers (which tend to have poor quality and steel) 5-6 years ago. Noticed they recently started phasing those out for two ABKT sub-brands, Roper and Cattleman's Cutlery. These are a little bit cheaper than the Old Timers, but several times better in quality, fit and finish, and sharpness out of the box. Also, they use 8Cr13MOV--a bit nicer than most low-cost traditional folders.

Tools used: both blades and saw.

Swiss+Tech...whatever they call it.  If the LM T2 is a SAK-alike, this is a SAL-alike clone, but maybe with a better tool selection.   :-\  The down side is that they are "come one, come all" when you try to choose one.

Day 11

I might have to mow one more time this year.  Haven't decided yet.  I don't mind if the grass is a little long over the winter.  Keeps the mud covered better.
Ruff Rida and some cinnamon toast.  Could make a good movie title:  Rough Rider....Unshackled.  Barton Fenmore breaks out of prison, where he has been set up for the murder of his fiancée's wealthy rancher father.  He dons a mask and rides for justice with his faithful companion Little Otter and his palomino Rexistopheles.  Rex for short.  Usual nickel plated six-shooters that each can shoot 47 times without reloading.  Standard B-movie issue.  Neither is capable of inflicting a fatality.  Only 'flesh wounds' generally in the shoulders.  Those sorts of injuries are treated with a bottle of red-eye and a Bowie knife heated over a fire as the only surgical instruments.
Best wishes,
G

Day 11

Ten days down, twenty to go!

I am surprised by the efficiency the Camillus Crossout provided with just 3 blades.  It may remain today in the pocket, of may be sidelined.

I am now considering my next choice. Have three possibles, one will remain in the wings as it may serve the last leg of the challenge.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Marbles US, Sheepsfoot blade model or the Rough Rider Scout.

Also, since awl tips was mentioned, I noticed that the awl on the RR is rounded, not a sharp point.

Nate, I carried the T4 when I did this badge a year or two back. I was pretty unimpressed. Think I gave it away at the end.

LC, the GI Jack is a great little knife. Love carrying mine.

Very attractive scales on the RR, Looper.  Be careful that your shackle doesn't fall off, like mine did.  I think mine got too close to my rotary grinder when I happened to have an abrasive drum on it instead of a buffer.  Don't you hate it when that happens?  Best wishes.  G

Thank you GARY!   The RR with a Y, is identical to the MARBLES signature model.   Same factory, different stamps, same naming rights holder (SMKW)

Also,  not allowed to go near grinders, something about a restraint order or such…

All of the new Marble's that I handled or owned were good solid knives.  I liked the look of the Cattleman's Country that friend cody showed.  I looked them up on one of the knife vendor's sites and saw items were marked down to under $20 for a bunch of models.  The trappers looked nice especially. Best wishes.  G

Yea, not super impressed with the T2, though it does have its strengths.  I’ll probably do a few more days worth of posts on it, and then move on to other SAK-alikes.

Day 11

The large (LM calls it a medium screwdriver, but it is the largest on the T2) flat screwdriver blade of the T2 is quite robust.  I’ve only done fairly light prying with it, but I’ve torqued it about as hard as I could without applying a cheater, and it suffered no damage.  That’s the good.

Now, the bad.  I’ve pointed out what I feel are some poor design decisions in earlier posts, but quite possibly the poorest is sharpening one edge of this implement so it can serve as a “package opener”.  Unless one’s design philosophy is “maximize function count at all costs and smurf everything else”, this is a really bad choice for several reasons…

I’ve said it elsewhere on this forum, and I’ll say it again, louder this time for the people in the back.  A dedicated package opener on a MT that already has a knife blade is redundant at best.

But the worst part is that, thanks to this ill-advised package opener, one has to be careful not to lacerate one’s fingers when opening and using the screwdriver.

Now, some might be thinking that the iconic TL-29 has a sharpened edge on its screwdriver as well.  True, but apples and oranges IMO.  For one thing, the wire scraper on the TL-29 serves an actual purpose, while the package opener is a solution in search of a problem.  For another, the TL-29 doesn’t have the tool clumping issue that the T2 has.

Swisstech 13 in 1 multi tool.  Is it decent enough?  How do the rest of the tools measure up?
