Knife lanyard beads

What’s everyone using for knife lanyard beads these days? I’ve seen everything from basic plastic to custom titanium and even crazy detailed bronze pieces. I’m mostly looking for something that adds a little grip and style without being bulky or over-the-top. Do you guys go for functional, decorative, or both?

The only lanyard bead I have is this brass octopus. It is heavy. I only bought it because I liked the look of it, so that probably puts me on the side of those who prefer decorative beads.  Although, I have considered the practical applications such as glow in the dark beads. I just haven't found a practical bead that I liked yet.
