Leatherman wave Handle screw loose, rattles?
on: May 20, 2025, 07:23:40 PM
LM Wave +, I have two of them, one I use frequently, one is a backup and seldom used. On the seldom used unit, when I shake the tool there is a very audible rattle on the handle end where the flat blade driver, mini eyeglass driver and scissors are located.
Upon inspection it appears all three of these tools are loose when inside the handle. If you hold that part of the handle upside down, the flat blade, mini driver and scissors actually falls out of the handle a tiny bit confirming they are loose. When these three tools are separately deployed there is a tiny bit of slop at the pivot points. The rest of the tool pivot points have no slop at all.

It appears to me that that end of the handle needs to be tightened up a bit and would require a special security bit to do this? Anyone else have this issue, how did you correct it, if a special bit is needed what bit do I need?

I apologize if this has been covered before. Thanks very much for any replies.

*******OK, I searched youtube and got it covered, I need the tamper proof torx bits to do it. Guess I'll head to Harbor Freight.
Thanks all.

Here is a quick pic of the bits I use. I use Wiha bits. For newer Wave and Charges you will need the Torx T10H bits (2 each). For early Waves and Charges you will need pentalobe bits PLS10 (2 each). For the special fasteners on the Super Tool, Rebar, PST, etc. search up parse wrenches on the big auction site. If you end up disassembling a tool, I recommend getting a pivot alignment tool for Benchmade Axis Knives.. I helps getting everything aligned so you can insert the pivot bolts..
