111mm collection - level 1
on: June 27, 2025, 08:38:43 PM
I realized I am eligible for Level 1 111mm collector badge so here we go! I have exactly 5 of them:

Picknicker
Forester Wood
DAK 2010
Cheese knife v2
Tradesman

Forester Wood is my favourite knife for camping and hiking. The large blade is good for food preparation and the woodsaw is very effective. The wood scales are joy to look at.

Picknicker was a gift from a friend of mine. It was his kitchen drawer knife and when I shared with him my collection, he donated it to me. What not to like in a large Spartan and a gift from a good friend?

DAK 2010 I got in autumn last year. My daughter started to study in university in Netherlands (Groningen) so I though it is appropriate to get something Dutch. And as I like variety in my collection, the OHO version immediately picked my interest - it is my first OHO SAK. I do not think I will need to cut parachute lines too often, but it is cool to have two serrated blades in one knife on top with two liner locks!

Cheese knife ver2 was on my list for quite some time and when I saw this one for a good price... - I like cheese and the scales with large cross look great!

Tradesman I got several years ago - it is basically WorkChamp minus scissors and long philips. At that time I got it as my "expedition" knife but in the end I find it to too large to be used as a regular knife. I would define it more as a multitool than a knife. But a good multitool! It now resides in a console of my car.

Even in the five knives I can see the evolution of the 111 line over time.  I prefer the newer versions - liner lock over slide lock, the larger bottle opener vs the small one. The only thing missing in the new versions is the sewing eye in the awl - I do not see the reason why it was removed.
