Pocket Magnetizer/Demagnetizer
on: August 02, 2025, 07:47:03 AM
Just ran across this small item as I was looking for something else on the Walmart site.  Claims to magnetize or demagnetize tools.  Powerful ceramic magnets.  I don't know anything about it.  A $3 item.  Has a key ring and a bottle opener.  Might have to be careful what you kept this thing around.  Best wishes.  G

Every time I think about demagnetizing, I think of destroying data on diskettes or hard drives.  (My IT mind at work apparently.)  Don't ever consider demagnetizing tools but I do run into times when I don't need/want something magnetized.

I wonder in what application would you need a keychain doohickey version by your side at all times though.
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Think of how easy it would be to tie the doohickie to a stick and use it to reach under the sofa for a lost something or other.  Or maybe reach into a toilet bowl tied to a string if a screw went kerplunk.  Using the cute little key-ring of course.  I saw a u toob video where someone used the magnetizer to make a screwdriver hold little mini phillips screws for hobby work, then demagnetize it afterward to return it to something that didn't stick to everything.  I think I will see if Walmart has them on the shelf?  Could be fun to play with for $3.  Best wishes.  G

Maybe not to EDC, but nice to have in a tool box/case. You could magnetize bits and screwdrivers to keep them from falling/dropping screws and then demagnetize them afterwards to stored them away.

You could magnetize a piece of wire/paperclip around a cane/pole/rope to retrieve something metallic.
