Yeah scissors are a big deal, which is why I am rocking a Midnite Mini Champ to supplement the Spartan for if/when there are things that the Spartan cannot do.  Which hasn't happened yet.

Btw, hsherzfeld, every time I see you post, I think, "who's a good boy?!  who's a good boy?!".   :ahhh

That is interesting as I also like the CLIMBER, and pair it with a SPARTAN in my travel kit. Just recently I took out the SPARTAN and replaced it with a Tinker.  No need for two corkscrews.

Still the SPARTAN is an easy carry in my pant pocket.

Plus, Vic’s scissors rock!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I almost always have my alox Mini Champ with me.  I really like the Climber too.  It's pretty close to the ideal tool set for me most days.

My default SAK for EDC is a Climber, which of course is just a Spartan with scissors and a hook.

I carried Climbers daily for many years, these days I have developed a preference for Alox because I really like a thin knife. But I still think of the Climber as the classic or standard SAK, against which all others are measured. You have everything really important and nothing that isn’t (except maybe the hook). Any other 91mm SAK in my mind is “Climber plus these things” or “Climber less these things”. If that makes any sense.

I have a 60s Companion (Executive) with horn scales. I've used mineral oil on them occasionally because it's what I have. Do you think that's ok? I don't want to accidentally damage them out of ignorance.
I have never tried mineral oil on the horn so can’t provide direct experience . But I use mineral oil on mother of pearl scales (I found the recommendation online). And as MoP is probably more delicate material than horn I do no think it would do any damage to horn.
And to finalize the treatment topic - I use ballistol on the wooden scales.

Day 3

I'm hurrying to get this posted before my chicken wings get cold. But this tin of putty was stuck together pretty good (probably from being in my pocket for at least an hour). The Spartan's cap lifter was used to get the tin to see things my way.

So, today Day 1 or 4 it's my latest member of the stable.

Camo' but I won't be taking this into the field in case it makes off on it's own. It's strictly for those days when I can spot it making a dash for freedom.

BTW, I'm really enjoying all the pictures of the Spartans. I thought seriously about doing the challenge with you all; I carry a Spartan from time to time, but I don't think I could do without my Pioneer for a whole month.

Mineral oil is great for treating cutting boards and as a light lubricant.  Just remember it is a product that results from refining OIL.

NEETSFOOT OIL is the result of the boiling of bovine hoofs and the shin bones of cattle.   It would be more natural for the horn scales.

I am sure an application of any condition will not destroy your scales, better than leaving in a drawer and allowing time to recall the natural materials.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Outstanding work everyone!  I did run into a job that needed a slightly bigger tool (Work Champ) to accomplish the mission.  I was removing one of our window mount air conditioner units in which I had used Philips head screws to secure the plastic "curtains" to the sill.  The can opener screwdriver didn't quite have the oomph to loosen them so the Work Champ large Philips got it done.

Time for more coffee! ☕☕

I had to order something else from Amazon so I threw in a bottle of neetsfoot oil. Should be here tomorrow. It's a small investment for one of my favorite knives in my collection.

LoopCutter, thank you for the invitation. I'm mulling it over this morning. My adhd self would like to see if I could complete one of these challenges. I tried one a couple years ago but a family vacation and other unexpected life events got in the way, and I wound up dropping out halfway through. There's a dozen or so Spartans around here that could come out to play if I do join in.

For the same reason Ive been carrying the CEO  (Manager with 3D printed scales with toothpick, tweezers, pin and pen), but this week I'll leave the CEO at home, and carry only a Spartan.
