Multiple Questions About 74mm Scissors (help!!)
on: August 15, 2025, 06:36:55 PM
My possible project:  I would like to see if a 74mm scissors from an SAK Executive or Ambassador can fit into a Leatherman Flat Bit Holder.  If so, it will sit inside my MUT long bit slot for storage.

1). How tall and long is the rectangular (hinge) end of the 74mm scissors?  The Leatherman flat bit is 7mm tall so for this project to work, the rectangular end of the scissors must also be at least 7mm tall.

2). Do all 74mm scissors have the spring groove in the inside of the handle to guide the spring so the spring doesn't fall out to the side?

G'Day Carl,

The scissors of the SwissCard fits into the MUT slot where the long bit sits. It fits better on the side where the carbon scraper is. It is deep enough to engage the lock mechanism too, thus it will not fall out. It is a tight fit, but works very well. I have carried mine like this for a while.

Cheers, Pete

Hi Pete,  Thanks for the idea and the great photos!  It looks like the lock cannot be put aside but must be in activated position.

Would you happen to have a 91mm Swiss Army Knife or Swisstool to see if the 91mm Victorinox scissors fits into the MUT bit slot or is it too tall to fit?

The lock can be activated. The last pic shows that. I'll see if I can test fit the ones you asked about.

74mm (red pic) scissors fits in the slot, the 91mm (stayglow) one does not.

Pete -  I was hoping the bigger 91mm scissors would fit - it doesn't but that's ok.  The Swisscard scissors is good enough.

It looks like I asked the right person who has all the different SAKS in his collection !!  Thank you for the photos - they are very helpful to understand how the different size scissors fit or don't fit into the MUT slot.

I have a few more questions:

1) Does the 74mm scissors and the Swisscard scissors have the spring groove inside the handle to prevent the spring from slipping to the side ?

2). Regarding the rectangular pivot tab at the end of the 74mm scissors, can you measure its length and height?   I know it's a bit difficult to measure since it sits inside the handle but I just need an approximation.

A big THANK YOU for all your help !!!

G'Day Carl,

1) Both have a groove for the spring. I checked three SwissCards just to be sure.

2) This is an approximate value. I used a toothpic and measured the distance:
Length from end to where the scissors body starts: 10mm
Height +- 5mm, it might be slightly less, I measured from where the inside spring is to the top of the metal bit.
Total scissors length is 64mm

You are very welcome,

Pete

Three Swisscards !!  Good thing Victorinox added the groove improvement across their entire line of scissors.

Once again Pete, thank you very much for going the extra several miles to help me get the info I needed !  Much appreciated.  God bless you and your family.

You are very welcome. Please post pics once you decided what to use on the MUT. It is one of my favorite tools.

Cheers, Pete
