Need help ID’ing a Swiss Army knife
on: August 27, 2025, 02:23:08 PM
Long story short, I need help identifying a knife I had.
My wife misplaced a knife I use when traveling. It was a 91mm Swiss Army . Basically a Spartan model but it had only one large blade and scissors
1) large blade
2) file
3) scissors
4) toothpick
5) tweezers
6) corkscrew
7) bottle opener
8) reamer
9) can opener

Welcome!

I think you will find the Evo (Evolution) 14 to be the closest available, if not what you originally had.  It is 85mm, not 91mm.

Are you sure it wasn't a Sportsman?  The 84mm Sportsman looks just like the Spartan, same toolset except the file vs small blade, and just a tad smaller.

To my knowledge there is no 91mm Victorinox that has your tools (including scissors) and a nailfile (instead of the small blade). There is the new Companion but that model substitutes the can opener for a box opener (and has a hook as one of the backlayer tools).

91mm with the large metal saw/file, for example the Mountaineer includes a small blade.

Are you not shure it is/was a 84mm? Then there is the Alumnus (rare).

Edit and PS - Some confuse Victorinox with Wenger. If your knife was a Wenger there is the 85mm Traveler (it is spelt that way) that has the exact spec.

A Wenger 84mm

The Traveler fits the bill
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Clipped a page shot from SAKWIKI

Plus I think I have one in my collection.

The Victorinox EVO14 also a 84mm fits the description with grip shape scales.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Additional digging found several Travelers on the auction site in a wide range of prices and matching prices.
A blue advertising version caught my eye, an made an offer😉

It is my thought that Delmont 14 replaced the TRAVELER and Victorinox after acquiring WENGER REBRANDED TO THE EVOLUTION OR EVO14.   The EVO 14 still uses the serrated self sharpening scissors blades.

If wanting a Vicotorinox brand, the COMPACT would be the closest.  The nail file is on the back of the hook tool, does not have the AWL, but has an ink pen with enhanced scales and is between a two layer tool.

My EVO14 is the style with the red and black textured scales.  Wish it was made with the Yellow like the 18😊

Also, plain red contour scales are available.

Yep - I agree w the Knights - Sounds like a Wenger Traveller or Delemont/Wenger Evo 14 - But that is not a 91mm Vic!

If he only had that one knife and then began searching after it was lost, then it easy to become confused if the closest model you find is a SPARTAN, by almost similar tool set.

91 mm and 85mm are same catagory size to Vic and Wenger respectfully.

Wasn’t the Traveler discontinued after the Belmont’s introduction or when Wenger was acquired by Victorinox.

I truly hope his wife finds his knife… behind the washer, under the stove, I in The junk drawer,  bottom of her purse, couch cushions, …

By a replacement, almost always then a lost tool will appear.

I am curious how she came to be blamed if it  his knife  :dunno:

You always have to blame someone else.  When you are a kid, you might blame your sister.  Or the dog.  After you get married, the wife has to play the role.
Swiss Army Knives are cheap.  Just buy another.  If that one doesn't seem perfect, then buy one more.  Repeat as necessary.  Best wishes.  G

You never ever BLAME the WIFE!

Make feel a little guilty, BUT drop it when a replacement is secured or original found.

Something I learn after 46 years with an excellent partner.  Would had been 50 years in 2025🥲

I think the OP, knew what he liked, just not know what it was called find a replacement, or had MTo experience to secure a back up or two…

If it was a 91mm knife  then in accordance with the list of tools it could have been Victorinox Mountaineer

Do-errrr - Of course - Why did no-one think of that one!

I think we all got fooled by the file next to the big blade thinking it was a nail-file!

Of course, it could be a Mountaineer.  That doesn't match up with his tools list.  He says it had one big blade and doesn't mention a small blade in his list.  Or the hook.  By the way he never said Victorinox.  Could be a cheap but cheerful or some German make.  People call an awful lot of things Swiss Army Knives.  Maybe we will all find out if he ever makes another post.  Best wishes.  G

It was his first post, likely option to receive reply notices no enabled.

Since he stated Spartan like, the AWL and Corkscrew on backside would fit.

And, instead of small blade,  I concluded a nail file/pointed for cleaning nails.

He did call out scissors, but not serrated or plain.

And, if only such tool he owned, no idea actual size!  Looking at reference pictures of knife alone how many of us can tell difference between 85mm or 91mm.

The WENGER TRAVELER is most likely candidate and make sense as he share he traveled with it!

Several are listed on the auction site, in fact I knappex a BLUE scaled promotional sample when I scanned the site yesterday.  Arrives next week.

Well... hrm... I put forth the Mountaineer already in my answer (third answer in the tread)

But he wrote that it:
it had only one large blade and scissors
1) large blade
2) file
3) scissors
4) toothpick
5) tweezers
6) corkscrew
7) bottle opener
8) reamer
9) can opener

That is no small blade.

I hope WildBoar comes back to give us some closure.
You all have given him some probable leads and likely one of them is correct.
Hope we find out.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.
