ARC plier head pivot wobbly!
on: October 13, 2025, 12:16:58 AM
Good evening to all,

Just got my ARC in Friday last week. I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Have already used it a handful of times.

After opening and closing it to get to use to it, and to help break it in a little bit, I noticed my plier head is quite wobbly at the pivot. So much so that the cutters are now hitting each other when closing the plier head.

I understand the ARC is meant to be loose in the sense it opens and closes easily with one hand, which has been great.

But the back and forth wobble is quite noticeable. Upon looking closer, the plier head pivot actually rotates separately from the two halves of the plier head.

I looked into the tightening process a lot of people have talked about, I was not successful in tightening the pivot.

Does anyone else experience the cutters hitting each other while closing the plier head?

Should I send my ARC in for warranty? Even though I’ve only had it for three days?  :-\

Sorry you are having issues with your ARC.  I just checked one of mine.  While there is a little bit of wiggle when holding the handles, there is zero play on mine when just holding each side of the plier head and trying to make it wiggle.  I cannot get the cutters to bind or hit each other.

I suggest that you don't try to tighten it yourself.  You may want to go on Leatherman's website and start a return.  They should take care of you.  Its a little bit of a hassle, especially on a $250 MT, but it will be worth it to get it right in the end.  Good luck.

Thank you for checking your ARC. I’ll likely send it back for warranty, unfortunately. I was so excited about this ARC being solid. It’s already been very useful at the very least.

I sent my ARC back for warranty today. I did remove the micro bit and standard flat bit.

I’ll update with how the warranty repair goes.

Hope the repair goes smoothly and you've soon got your Arc back!

I just checked mine: there's a small wiggle in the handles and a tiny, tiny - maybe 1mm - wiggle when holding the plier heads but it's certainly nowhere near close to letting the wire cutter blades touch one another.

I want to like it, but I need to use it more than three days for that  happen. We shall see. I’ll definitely update when it gets back.

Had my FREE P4 and sent it back for a full refund.
The head of the pliers got worse and worse in the pivot area.

I’ve actually been considering this as an option. I’m considering getting the curl and putting the rebar plier head on the curl.

I’m still waiting on the warranty to be completed.

But, I called Leatherman warranty department and asked if I could just get a refund.

The lady said that because the tool was used, my tool is not eligible for a refund. I reminded her I bought it Oct 4th and it delivered Oct 10th. Oct 13th I sent it back for a warranty repair.

I mentioned the hassle free return policy posted on the website under the Leatherman insider program.

Still, not eligible.

So, I’ll likely sell it off and get a curl and modify it with rebar plier head, charge+ blade and saw.

Very strange, because the tool is basically new.

It seems the best way was to return it for a full refund, saying you just don't like it,

if only you knew that their 30-day return policy is a complete joke, because there is no mention whatsoever that the tool must be new and not used.

Maybe once it gets back to me repaired, I’ll send it back on a return. lol.

Or sell it out right. We shall see.
