I like it.  Certainly better than the cellidor from last year, IMO.

Though the 2023 cadet has spoiled me...

Have to agree with you. I don't what they could do to top 2023, but I do like this one.

It's unlikely that I'll go out of my way to pick that one up, but they did a nice job on it. I can't figure out what species of tree was used for the scales, though.

US$90 isn't terrible, for the collector.  But not as good as the 2023 flavor at $65.

Hi Guys

Just received the mail from Vic on this
Here is the link to the AU webpage
https://victorinox.com.au/products/winter-magic-limited-edition-2025

It has really, really  nice looking scales and of course the Climber is a great model - So a big  :tu:  from me

Although I wish they'd stop making snowflakes with eight points - Surely their designers know that can't happen.
They made the same mistake in 2022 !! :twak:

The cost here is $219 - That's about $140 US ..... They call that the Australian sunshine tax!
What a rip-off - Think I'll pass ... or try and get it from elsewhere

Here is the spec from the email ....
Quote
Swiss-made with 12 integrated functions:
•   Precision-Crafted Large Blade
•   Delicate Small Blade
•   Sophisticated Corkscrew
•   Refined Scissors
•   Versatile Can Opener: paired with a sleek 3 mm screwdriver
•   Elegant Bottle Opener: featuring a robust 6 mm screwdriver and wire stripper
•   Artisan Reamer & Sewing Awl
•   Multipurpose Hook
•   Polished Key Ring with detachable charm
So we now have a sophisticated corkscrew; refined scissors; a sleek screwdriver; an artisan awl; and an elegant bottle-opener
WTF is that all about ?   ???      - I really wish Vic would stop all this BS   :pok:

I have asked Vic what is the refinement on the scissors - as I may need to update the Wiki!!

And I am wondering what a versatile can-opener is ?   ???
It can open cans and .........  ..... what?
Well I suppose it is a package opener too and a sharp pokey thing - So maybe that adjective is correct after all  :D
It's not the small SD - As they call that out separately!
And very curious as to how they polished the keyring - The charm certainly is polished!  ..... But the keyring?   ???

I went to the local flagship Vx store today. They already had  the new winter collection knife displayed. In person the look is OK,  but just OK - I was not overly impressed.
The specimen, I had in hands, had vary uniformly looking scales - almost no visible grain in the wood.

I got spam this morning pushing the new Vic Alox range… luckily I’m not too bothered about Alox, unfortunately they also showed this winter magic 2025
Mine should arrive in 3days 🤞
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

When I first saw an ad from a distributor that was bringing Opinels into the states, they were advertised as having pear wood handles.  I can't say that was a fact, but it was what was advertised.  Pear doesn't have a distinctive growth ring pattern.  I've seen old Opinels that looked like they might be pear wood.  Fruit woods generally come out of old orchards that are being cleared.  There used to be a roller mill near my house.  They made cereal and had a dam and water wheel on the Cartoogechaye Creek.  I caught my first perch fishing by the ruins of the old dam as a lad.  While hunting I would see dogwood trees that had been cut off to make pins for the mill and later grew back another fork.
The Opinels at that time were less than $3 each.  Cheap?  Yes, but CASE knives were less than $10 at the local hardware store at that time for ordinary models.
Best wishes.  G

$13 plus tax for an Opinel and a Case? Sounds good to me!
