Day 19

Kitchen cleanup this morning.
Non standard kitchen implements I do utilize, for specific tasks just because they work very well.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Scissors to cut open packages cleanly, to heck with the tear here notches.

The LM pliers can grab the pull tabs, or thin security seals with no problem.   I quit telling myself these old fingers can get it.

The BUCK works great trimming meat, cutting through breast bones as well as joints on chickens.

And when I prep ribs, easily separate sections of individual bones, two bones or 4 bone servings as needed.  The handle allows for a firm safe grip too!

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

And a BLACK CLIMBER followup!

The Black/White specs pull was attached late last week.

Thank you the feedback.

This now matches the BLACK SPARTAN.

I’m going to look at the Becker Remora :tu:
I haven’t carried or used extensively, but seems like a decent knife for what it is (tiny FB, skeletonized handle).

It might be possible to cord wrap the handle, but something smaller diameter than standard 550 cord would be needed, and this might interfere with getting it into the sheath.

On the subject of the sheath, it is cheap plastic.  Seems basically functional, though I’m unsure how long it would last under frequent use.

However, as I stated earlier, if you are set on using an actual Altoids tin (as opposed to just wanting a really small FB for a mini survival kit), I’m afraid the Remora will be too long to fit…

I guess some of it depends on how we define “survival” kit.  I usually think of being in the woods, and there a Swiss Army 7 would be far more useful than a Cadet + Swiss Card scissors.

I like peppermint too, but wintergreen is my favorite! :dunno:
:like: I like the wintergreen too. Cinnamon is my favorite, though!  :tu:

Sanrenmu 6040. Excellent little folder.

Nice! I have a 7010 (as I understand, a Small Sebenza copy), and it's really well made for less than $20.

I misread the original post as being “tool kit” rather than survival kit, possibly because I have in mind to make an Altoids tin tool kit myself. For a survival kit I would agree, especially having a very useable saw would be a good idea.

We must have taste buds that are differently wired. I actually threw my wintergreen Altoids in the toilet, on the basis that they would probably dissolve and act as a bleach substitute.

Day 18

Used my "military" model Fisher Cap-O-Matic to start a grocery list. Normallly, I've been using the somewhat smaller Rite in the Rain EDC pen, but decided to bring my nicer one back out. I think Rite in the Rain uses Fisher inserts--though I've heard their formulation is a little different on the branded ones.

Day 19:

Somewhat of a delay catching up due to "backup" PC issues. I moved my full gaming desktop downstairs to make using my steering wheel less of a pain in the rear, but as of late, I've had some allergy issues.  Haven't pinned down the cause as something already in the basement (like insulation or mildew) or fumes from the 3D printer (though I mostly print PLA).

Got my laptop back out, and forgot the password from when I originally set it up back in August. ad to go into the Linux recovery menu and fix that..

It's a 7-8 year old Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1 that I installed Linux Mint on (as it only had the BIOS on it when I got it). Got it to replace my 15-year-old General Dynamics GD8200. Got it cheap directly from a company that sold surplus PCs--by cutting out the middleman I got it considerably cheaper than I pad for the GD8200 form a reseller.

I'm gonna have to get Walmart's cheap store brand Bluetooth mouse. It only has one USB and two USB-C ports. One C is used for charging, and the only USB port is typically dedicated to my mouse. I keep a flash drive for moving files between PCs, and I have to unplug the mouse to do that.

I don't need a lot of performance out of a laptop, since they're mostly used for web browsing. But, the 8th gen i7s pretty good. Also, everything on Linux is fast. Even transferring files over Bluetooth.  The 2-in-1 effectively makes it an insanely powerful tablet as well. The 12" screen means it's pretty compact and I was able to buy a tablet bag instead of a larger laptop bag for it.

I do need to replace the battery--it was bad when I got it, and it's currently tethered to a Nintendo Switch Lite Charger that's "good enough"). The last time I bought a charger, Amazon sent me someone else's used junk charger. I got a replacement (that was new), and threw out the one I was sent. Ended up having to return the new one because they didn't tell me to send in the old one until a month later.  I"ll buy one in person from Walmart...

For the white part, I present my 2009 DSi.

Day 19
Among the tools used today, blacked out ST300

used to unpack a black Peak Design Everyday Messenger bag.

As the name implies, it's definitely an EDC item.
I'm a backpack person and have never connected with any single strap bag for EDC and always returned to backpack after a short while.
I had kind of given up on them, but after a failed attempt to find a suitable EDC backpack with functional back ventilation to use on hot days, I'm now open to try a messenger style bag for this application.
This is my first attempt. I have a few other candidates I may try before I settle on one, or dismiss the project outright.
The reason I got this one first is quite strange. I very rarely make good deals on the secondary market, but as I had almost decided to buy a well used one of these, of the previous generation, this brand new one popped up at a lower price. Yay!

Day 19

Saw a lot of reviews complaining about the can opener on the Switchplier. I rate it profoundly "meh." It opened the can, and was far from the worst multi tool can opener I've ever used, but not one of my favorites either. I would never want it as my primary/only, but it's an acceptable just in case.

Day 18

I bought an Emerson CQC - 7 at a flea market for about $100 bundled with a new SAK CLIMBER for around $100 in early 2000s.

Used the “7” has part of my work kit, as it was great for cutting a variety of materials with its chisel grind.   About 2016, the “7” disappeared from a job site. Just grew legs and walked off.

It was then when I looked for a replacement on line did I learn the EMERSON STORY.  Also, learned that I could not afford a new CQC7 new, from Emerson or even a dealer at a gun show. I was sick.

A little while later, learned that Emerson and Kershaw collaborated to make a line of knives designed like the first CQC models.

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Starting at the top
CQC5 - great pocket carry, and easy blade deployment via Wave blade feature.
CQC7 - Tanto blade, very close to my missing original
Except does have the grippy handle and chisel grind blade.
CQC8 - the other model of a 7, modified clip/drop blade.
(CQC -=.  CloseQuarterCombat)
It is my understanding that the Emerson line was designed for combat purposes with input from Elite Special Forces operators in the 90s. Quiet blade deployment via the wave feature, chisel grind for ease of field sharpening. And handles that were non slip.

These knives pictures are nice, but really copies of the originals at a very reasonable cost.
It is an interesting story with a steep price tag.  I can verify that the N-SAR is in fact used by many shipboard Navy rescue swimmers, as well as some Air Force PJs.   Emerson came on my radar when I had to purchase one for the ship’s new rescue swimmer.

Day 20
Today’s carry pic includes my nomadix tiny towel.  I’ve carried a bandana or mini microfiber towel in my pocket for several years, because I just find it handy and use it frequently.  These are my favorite because they are small, soft and more absorbent than a traditional bandana.  I also have a bandana towel that I like to use when hiking.

Your reply is my experience as well.  And, Mini A100 was and still stirs a bit of excitement for me too!

An email recently arrived and was introducing a new presence.

And seeing A100 and mini ignited a spark.

Ernie Emerson is an interesting man, and is very particular regarding his knives and passion

Enough so, he shuts down if materials are not available or staff can deliver expected outcomes.

The new online store - https://www.emersonknives.com/?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&_kx=WcRfknd8sQrIezKq1Sm05gT7QcFQB2ysCjZz8Qf-a6I.Tc8zqC

Mini100 and A100 both listed. 😎

I may or may not have ordered one...

It'll be interesting though, I used to use USgoBuy to forward packages from the US, but they closed a while back. Trying a new service now, so who knows if it ever gets here.

Definitely not that bad. It was mainly because of freezing rain with chance of snow, which for your area is probably normal.
