Any woodworkers?
on: November 16, 2025, 05:25:50 PM
I posted this under another “old” subject but no one replied so I fig I’d start a new one, anyway, do we have any “woodworkers” in the house? I’ve always wanted to get into woodworking, yeah I’m a plumber but still, back in the day I had a simple 10x12ft shed that I turned into a mini and I do mean “mini” workshop, here’s a pic of a bench that I made which used a simple circular saw and turned it onto a table saw, same with a router and jig saw, but then the seizures took off, now we have a freaking two car garage, so it kills me that I can’t have it turned into a workshop, I have my basic tools just not specialized “wood” tools, I mean yeah I have a circular saw, jigsaw, reciprocating saw, even a compound miter, I just can’t use things like this without being supervised,, plus low on cash being disabled, but I’d like to try my hand at woodworking, start simple and work my way up if I get into it, and I do me simple with just hand tools and nothing electric, I’d be working indoors at a simple desk or table so maybe start by making a mini workbench like pictured and then just jigs to make making things easier, one thing I did see that I liked is a Japanese toolbox, but any info would be GREATLY appreciated! I had conversations about woodworking in e-mails with another MTo'er not too long ago. I'll review it and see what jumps out at me. One thing I can think of that could be hugely beneficial to you (especially since you're endeavoring to use primarily non-powered tools) is a miter box. And I do like the Japanese toolbox.

I was looking at one of those, I thought that Japanese box was awesome, has a wood wedge that locks the lid,,

You can modify them however you want, here, you can add a drawer or even trays, plus you make it to what size you want to fit whatever your going to use it for,, of course you can make them mini just for pen/pencils or sak’s, even cooler?

Those seem like classics. Almost like a Japanese distant relative of the classic Machinist/ Engineers Tool Chest.

Sometimes I wish me and wood were on friendlier terms - many nice things out there!
