Fun to see all the posts this morning!

Day 3

The Alox classic is thin as LoopCutter mentioned and I agree.

A few years ago I bought this modded Classic here on MTO and love it.

Seen below with a regular Alox.

Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

I like that desk pad Tony!  Truth be told, 99 percent of my EDC usage is exactly that sort of usage.  Two months of carrying a little SAK has shown that cbl51 is right: for most days, one of these knives gets it done.  I've resorted to my bigger multi tools for a few things, but only a couple of times.

This was my basic impetus for doing the challenge. To see when, where, and how often I actually need something more, and if that “something more” was a thing I could reasonably expect a pocket knife to handle.

As a long time carrier of a pioneer and classic alox on the keys, I’m already used to a variety of compromises, and always prefer a dedicated tool if available. Due to that, I could likely get by with only a 58mm as an only edc and really only suffer a few extra trips to the toolbox. We’ll see after the 30 days is up.

And that says nothing about if I want to give up the larger SAK.

I think I may have taken the challenge a little too literally. Good to know I can resort to my usual multi tool when it’s necessary.

Oh, that’s is different, a pointed end for cleaning under nails.  Must be an older model.  Newer have the flat screw driver blade.

That makes me curious, if any of my older ones have what file blade???
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Now that is very handsome and appears very practical to grip and hold.

Yes, I was(still am) surprise how thin the ALOX CLASSIC actually is.

One thing I miss with Alox scales is the toothpick.

I will need to make a lanyard like the one I made for my Midnite MiniChamp (seen below), that will hold a toothpick.

Day 3

The little fella saw some use today. I used it to prepare some crickets for my Blue Death Feigning Beetles. Pic is the little guy on top of the enclosure after working. I thought it best not to post pics while he was working, as some viewers may be more sensitive than others.

It's actually a 1985 model, my second SAK.  I lost it in a box for decades, and found it while looking for something else.  You can still get a non SD Classic as far as I know. It makes a great Philips head SD in a pinch  :D .

That's a great idea!  Like Gus, I use the toothpick to clean the charging ports of the various devices we have more than anything else.

With the exception of a PST, which is kept in her car, this is Mrs. R's entire EDC kit.  I've not known her to require much more very often.  Her Dad got her the Classic in 1978.  I ordered a new toothpick for it a couple of years ago.  The rest is all factory original.

Interesting, mind me asking what it’s for?

Not at all.  There is a lot of evidence, including epidemiological and double-blind studies, that sunlight is powerful medicine for the body's mitochondria.  Latitudes that lose seasonal sunlight first are also the first to get seasonal flu, covid, etc.  Patients with covid have shorter hospital stays, exhibit improved oxygen saturation, etc., when exposed to even brief amounts of infrared light - which we experience as the heat from the sun.  Dr. Roger Seheult - a quadruple certified critical care physician - says it far better than I do, so I've linked it below.  Cardiac mortality and all cause mortality are inverse proportional to sunlight exposure.

I try to get 15 - 30 minutes of sunlight per day, even in winter.   This is an amount shown to provide measurable benefits to hospitalized covid patients.  When I can't because of weather or other reasons, I sit in front of the fireplace (that heat is IR radiation) and now will occasionally use that infrared emitter.  It is a medical grade emitter.

I know it may sound a little wonky.  But the evidence says what the evidence says, and I'm going with that.  Good times.  Rock on.
