Victorinox Compact with Phillips and Awl Mod
on: December 24, 2025, 04:48:49 AM
Hello!

I have always thought the perfect SAK would be a Victorinox Compact with an awl and Phillips head on the back. Of course, this model doesn't exist. And while I was looking on the internet, hoping to manifest one into existence by sheer force of will, I found this community and found that some people had created such a thing several years ago. Namely, that a user named Tattoosteve99 had made one for a user named Demel several years ago. I am sure others have made similar ones since then. If you have ever put together a SAK in this configuration, I would love to hear from you. I am currently on the fence about modding on myself (starting from absolutely ZERO experience) or seeing if someone would be interested in undertaking such a project.

If you have ever made a knife like this, how easy was it for you to do? Anything particularly tricky?

If you are someone who deals in custom SAKs and would be interested in undertaking a project for the right price, reach out.

And, of course, if you are someone who has one of these knives, I'd love to see more pics.  :D

Included is the pic I found which first brought me to your community. All credit to the two users named above.

I don't mod - but you should.

That pictured Compact is a major step in the right direction.  In Powernoodleworld, the Compact definitely needs a phillips.  And for my part, the cork screw is a waste of space.  I prefer an  inline phillips, but a back driver is better than none.

Here’s mine with a simple breakdown, I switched out the corkscrew for the Philips, but I also added a layer to add the saw, I could have added the awl which I had but I just didn’t feel like going through the aggravation of finding the right back spring to fit it,, any questions ask away, welcome aboard,

I agree, Noodle. I just don't open enough wine bottles when I am out and about to justify the cork screw so even a mid-tier phillips head gets more use in my world.  Maybe when you or I become CEO of Victorinox we can add the phillips Compact  to production. Until we'll have to play the modding game.  :D

Thanks MadPlumbarian! Great pictures. It's always cool to see what someone's ideal SAK looks like!   It seems to me that I should start by getting my hands on a Compact and probably a Tinker, correct? Would that give the proper back spring needed?
