Audio Vs Video?
on: December 26, 2025, 04:38:14 PM
The video version of EDC-TV seems to be doing better than the audio version, but both seem to be going very strong.  Originally I had planned on releasing the Audio version on a Wednesday and the Video version on Fridays.

What are everyone's thoughts about this?  Also, let me know if you prefer the audio only or the video version of the show.

I'd also thought about publishing the transcripts if anyone is interested in those.  I thought if nothing else then it might bring in the Google Search stuff a bit more.

Well, we have a very strong listener base on the audio only version so I don't see us getting rid of it.  I was just thinking of spacing out the releases a bit.   :D

I take it this means you are a video watcher primarily?

I haven't followed your channel, so don't put too much emphasis on my response.

I think I have about an even consumption distribution between YouTube (video) and podcasts (audio). But due to the way I usually listen to podcasts I'm more selective about format, sound quality and production when I listen to podcasts.

I prefer long format podcasts, non to minimal amount of jingles or sound effects, continuous sound levels throughout (most podcast get this wrong when/if they switch to sponsored content or playback media that's referenced/discussed in the podcast.

In general (possibly in some regard due to above preferences) my choices in podcasts has leaned more and more toward science and history content whereas my YT watching is more varied with more news and life style / consumer content (EDC, outdoor, photography, nature, gear tests, etc.)

I listened to part of one audio episode.  I have seen several of the shorts.  YouTube keeps putting them up as suggested viewing for me.  So, it is mostly video.  G

We awlso get to see some of the items you're talking about in the video, that's why I prefer it.

I know this thread is old but I was thinking about the other day.

I listen to the podcast version in the car and then go back to YT if I want to see something or sometimes just to rewatch portions of it.  I don’t have time to watch the video all the way through on one go so having the podcast in the car helps me to figure out if I should go back.

I appreciate the input!  When I was commuting an hour each way for work I would listen to the podcast as well- it's really handy to have that version for the car.

What I was wondering about in this post wasn't whether or not we should have an audio version, it was whether I should release the audio version in advance of the video version.

That's not a bad idea- I could post the audio without video and the video without audio.

Then folks would have to stream BOTH to get the whole thing and then we would get twice as many hits!   :D

Unless y'all are planning on singing some classic rock in the audio stream, I'm for the video option.
