New Worx Cordless Screwdriver
on:
December 31, 2025, 10:21:34 PM
I used to use the B&D cordless screwdrivers and I love ved them but they are through four AA batteries pretty quickly, and they were slow.
Then I got a lightweight cordless B&D drill and I just used that for most of my cordless screw driving needs, but the charger for it was either misplaced, tossed or destroyed in our flood a few years ago, so I decided it was time for a new one.
I ordered this Worx one from Rona (Canadian Lowes or Canadian B&Q, depending on where you are!) last week and it arrived today.
It's a Worx WX240L 4V, three speed cordless screwdriver that is USB rechargeable.
Being able to recharge it with the same cord I use for my phone was a HUGE selling feature for me. I was looking at some from Milwaukee and Skil but as soon as I saw this one charged from a USB C cord I decided it was what I wanted.
I have a pile of Worx tools now, including two lawnmowers, two whipper snappers, a leaf blower, a chain saw, a small drill and a cutting wheel doodad, but they all run off the PowerShare battery system. This one is a standalone device, but I've been pretty happy with the other Worx stuff so I've got high hopes for this one.
Oh, and I needed to spend a few minutes Xtra dollars to get free shipping, so I also bought this Bosch bit set, which includes actual drill bits with a hex shank to fit in the screwdriver. It out me a couple of dollars over where I would have been without the set, so basically I got the bit set for a couple of dollars. Seems worth it.
I'll let you all know how I get along with this one once I've got some mileage on it, but so far (just playing) I think it will work out quite well.

Nice! I've considering a cordless screwdriver for a bit but haven't pulled the trigger.

Naturally I had a bunch of things lined up to do with this screwdriver but I can't think of any of them now that it's here.

I have been looking at this driver for months now but decided on the Amazon Basics one by SKIL a couple months ago because it had decent reviews and was on sale I think mine was less than 20 bucks. Had I seen the worx model I probably would have gotten that one (yours) but missed it, normally I never buy Amazon basic stuff (usually because they suck). I like the case yours come with.
The old model worx had a push-in magnetic bit holder but I think the new one has a twisting locking chuck does yours? (I can't tell from the descriptions or pictures online) I hate bits coming out and staying in the chuck in tight places or anytime. I would have liked an 8V model but they are pretty expensive and I hardly need a power screwdriver now and why I went with the inexpensive 4V Amazon/Skil basic model.

No it's just a regular magnetic chuck on this one and I don't believe it has a retention ring. I have only used it once so far and I'm away from home so I can't check.
It doesn't look like it in the picture so I'm pretty sure it doesn't.
I'd be interested to see how your SKIL one works out as that is one of the ones I was looking at initially.

your worx is on sale now at amazon for 39.86 right now. it went down to 29 bucks at xmas (after I bought the amazon/skil one
)
and this one is on sale too which I have little knowledge of: the WX255L SemiAutomatic pistol driver
like something you'd be issued on the assembly line

one of my favorite youtube channels "Torque Test Channel" just came out (less than 1 hour ago) with a 15-1/2 minute video comparing these drivers (including 2 Worx models old and new and my Amazon Basics), fun watch if your into this:

I picked up a bunnings throw away Ozito cordless screwdriver about 5 years ago.
Ozito are usually cheap, but this one was $5.00
Nothing wrong with it, just old stock.
This damn thing has been brilliant, use it often and only needs a recharge every now and then.
Now the "works" tools.
I have purchased several
I have two cordless soldering irons, my go to in most situations.
I purchased a huge hammer drill for half the cost of hiring one to rip up the tiles in my bathroom
Used many times, works a treat and is seriously solid.
Even my son couldn't break it.
Other "works" tools have been mixed in their performance, some great, some so, so.
I'd have no issues with the old Works tools, bit I still prefer my DeWalt for my main tools.
tools is what defines us as humans

I have been pretty pleased with my Worx tools- the screwdriver was a little light on torque, but then, that's why it's not a drill. My Worx drill may be light duty, but it's definitely up to the tasks the screwdriver isn't.
For heavier stuff I have a corded DeWalt drill too, because sometimes you just need the kind of reliable power only a corded drill can give you.
And, a couple of weeks ago I used my Worx 10" chainsaw to cut up a 12" tree that had fallen across the driveway at my camp, so I am really impressed with what they can manage.

Worx is a pretty good brand I feel. A friend of mine swears by them. I've recently purchased a 'CK' model. 'CK' is a popular electrician tool brand here in the uk, I believe they're gear is made in germany. The only reason I went with the 'CK' one over other brands is it has a locking chuck, so will take double ended bits. I haven't used it a great deal at work yet but seems to fit the bill. I also like the USB-C rechargeable thing. I didn't want to have to have another charger to handle those 4 volt batteries.

Honestly, I wasn't sold on the Worx brand for this one since it doesn't take the PowerShare batteries. I mostly stick to Worx stuff for that reason, and in this case I did look at other brands.
In the end, this one had the right mix of availability, price and features that worked for me (Worx for me?
) that it's the one I got. I will say though, I had a Milwaukee one in the cart at Ye Olde Amazone Shoppe for a couple of days before getting this one.
