Hobo knife badge request
on: January 30, 2026, 10:59:28 AM
So here are my hoboknifes!

The first one I got from ka-bar, I had wanted one for a long time and during the pandemic some smartass decided that paper utensils are the thing, try cutting meat with that! So I took my chanse and bought this to keep in my car for those times then there was no other option. I have never seen paper utensils after that one time but who knows? I have used them on a picnic or two and they do the job just fine

My second are from böker and came surprisingly dull, but after some work on the stone I feel like it's up for the task, haven't use them yet and trying to make up my mind about a sheath. Leather looks great but I'm thinking about something down the lines of opinels choice

My third I got last night and was not a planned thing but saw them online and wanted a set, I don't really like the idea of changing the implements and only having one handle but opinel being what they are, at least I have a no8 sharp as a whistle 🙂

But to be totally honest, when camping I use these from the Swedish military and sometimes just a titanium spork from light my fire

Congratulations on your badge! I like that Swedish military kit. To my knowledge, U.S. troops don't really use such things anymore...just the plastic spoon in MREs.

Thanks! I don't know if they still do, got these when I was in a youthgroup many years ago and a lot has happened since then. But now that will stay on my mind.. Have to ask my neighbor about it

Edit: just checked and they use sporks now

Just a quick update, for the böker I tried the opinel route and while still thinking about making a leather sheath this will work until then. I used fabric I already had at home and the bungycord I stole from an emergency bike light that I never use. It's quick, dirty and rough but work as intended although it might be a bit thick
